Raiders FaceTiming Herbert.

Interesting article.  For one reason we could be in site of that trade up.  Raiders have the 12th and 19th picks.  But there is also a rumor that teams have Herbert over Tua due to the injuries and not being able to do medical.

The other interesting part is that teams are able to FaceTime prospects.
NFL teams are permitted three calls/FaceTime sessions with a player per week. Those sessions cannot last longer than an hour, per a memo sent to NFL teams on how to handle the pre-draft process during the pandemic.

Would love to find out who we are talking to.

Here is the entire article.

Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert reportedly held meetings with officials from the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers via FaceTime ahead of the 2020 NFL draft.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted that with in-person meetings banned because of the coronavirus pandemic, teams have started using technology for their pre-draft discussions with prospects.

Herbert is the consensus No. 3 quarterback in this class, behind presumptive No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa. The Chargers have the sixth pick in Round 1, and the Raiders have Nos. 12 and 19.

The Chargers, having sat out the free-agent quarterback process after missing out on Tom Brady, appear likely to draft a quarterback in Day 1 or Day 2 of the draft. They allowed Philip Rivers to leave in free agency and have not made a move for Cam Newton or Jameis Winston, two starter-level quarterbacks still available on the open market.

The Raiders have Derek Carr on the books and signed Marcus Mariota as a backup earlier in March, but head coach Jon Gruden's affinity for young quarterbacks is well-established. If Gruden likes one of the guys near the top of the draft, he has the assets to move up and grab one. Carr would then become trade fodder, with Mariota perhaps slotting in as a stopgap early in the season.

Herbert was a four-year starter at Oregon, combing archetypal size and a strong arm with above-average athleticism. While his college career was never remarkable, he closed it out with Offensive MVP honors in the Rose Bowl and an MVP in the Senior Bowl.

From a physical perspective, Herbert and Utah State's Jordan Love are the most talented quarterbacks in this class. If he finds the right system, it's possible he will wind up being the best signal-caller of the 2020 draft.

On the QB train wholeheartedly. Tua may drop a lot farther than many expected. I'm on the draft Herbert official bandwagon but Marty would have to trade with Gettleman to get that guy ahead of the QB hunger.

The Panthers must replace the QB whom they footed in the ars. #7 is their best shot (don't @me about New Orleans retreads). I'd imagine Love may jump Tua because of injury concerns also. NFL teams are injury averse.

Chargers need to go ahead and sign Cam so the Raiders can comfortably trade up with us for Herbert.

#7 and our 7th for #12 + #80 (3rd) + 159 (5th) + 2021 1st

DO IT.  DOOOO IT

Our 1st and 2nd, for both their 1st rounders.

Herbert certainly has all the physical tools.

He just may end up being a top-gun for the Chargers or the Dolphins, time will tell.

Good news is the Panthers already have our top-gun nailed down for the foreseeable future...

...it's Teddy Time folks!

The Panthers should have been in the market for a QB. Unfortunately, the signing of Bridgewater likely means the QB position is ignored this year. Furthermore, it means that at least one year is added to any reasonable chance of real competitiveness for the Panthers. That will not come with Bridgewater.

IMHO, the signing of Bridgewater was absolutely the dumbest thing the Panthers could have done this off season. He is a weak-armed QB who will, at best, be a game manager. The most TDs he has ever thrown is 14 and his wins tend to require his defensive unit to hold teams below 20 points (not likely with this team).

Clearly, those in the Panthers' brain-trust (Hurney) that believed only a retooling was needed won the day. This team was in need of a complete rebuild. I would go so far as to say it is currently the least talented team in the NFL. This is not an environment where a QB like Bridgewater can thrive. What a waste.

I hope I am wrong. I hope Bridgewater has a greatness that has never been manifest and/or the Panthers draft a franchise QB this year. If I am honest, I think both are pipe dreams at this point.

Not trying to bash you, but I don't get why some fans want us to draft a QB this year....especially when it could be Herbert/Tua/Love - each with question marks.

We just brought in the best QB on the FA market not named Brady and also brought in a young prospect that dominated the XFL to see if he can translate over to the NFL.

Same with fans that want to use the #7 pick on Jeudy/Lamb/Ruggs..... we just brought in four new WRs, and re-signed another.

Both of these positions, IMO, are luxury selections in 2020 for round 1 or 2. The offense is going to hum this year with a very, very young unit.

Teddy Time is here!

8-8 worst case, probably revising upwards when future defensive signings are announced.

Lotta naysayers out there have zero conception of how incredibly skilled/talented this coaching staff is...no doubt a top-4 (maybe top-2) staff in the League before the 1st snap has even taken place.

Rhule's staff is the inverse to Rivera's inept staff that never maximized potential of any player --- Rhule's Rules will result is most all players exceeding expectations...

This is going to be a LOT of fun!!

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
