What Happened to Cam Newton? (Most Misunderstood NFL Player)

Pretty simple – dominance reliant on top-5-all-time physicality, regressed once injuries started to chip away at said [huge] advantage, rest of [remaining] skillset [so far] not enough to bridge the gap. With health + fundamentals (accuracy, decision-making), could return to former station or close to it.

I don't think Cam is misunderstood at all.

Panther fans generally know exactly who Cam Newton is, and in general, most folks like him as he is.  Flaws and all.

"What happened" to him is simple.  It's exactly what everyone always said was likely.  The beatings he took week in and week out playing the game his way took their toll.  I understand why he was let go.  I don't like it on some levels, but at the same time, I still understand it.

The guy has definitely never lived up to his MVP season since, and you could argue his second best season was 2013.  I think 2018 could definitely have been his best season ever if not for "the hit", but it wasn't to be.  So from the teams point of view, he's coming off injury after injury and on a downward trajectory . . . that's not the recipe for rebuilding a franchise.

I hope Cam comes back better than ever and proves the doubters wrong.  I'm a little sad it won't be here.  But I do understand the decision.

i think he was speaking more on the critics, there are a lot of people who still spout the same narratives about him being a poor sport and inaccurate. its tiresome, a lot of casuals follow these narratives.  also, no offense or anything but how is 2013 his 2nd best season? i usually see it get panned as his second worst season. i always thought the 2nd best season race was between 2017 and 2011. also yeah, i hope cam does great too.

2017 was IMO almost as impressive as 2015 in terms of Cam's performances.  He won games with Kaelin Clay and Damiere Byrd starting at WR.  His playoff game against NO was perhaps the best game Cam ever played even though we lost.
