Very odd report.

No one:

Carolina Panthers: “Hey...uh...just so you guys know we are NOT shopping Curtco. God bless.”

Not if you've been paying attention. The day before things like this were circulating.  https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ninersnation.com/platform/amp/2020/3/28/21197379/smart-teams-should-be-calling-carolina-about-curtis-samuel

Then Joe Person made the statrment citing a "source" that they weren't in response to rumors.

The Panthers have said nothing so far.

Samuel will shine with Joe Brady

people act like hes a deep threat. while he can do that, where he shines is having the ball in space.

we have and OC and a QB who can get him the ball quickly after snap.

He did 627 yards last year, most of those with a QB(sorry cam. Just not your style) who could get the ball out quick. Sadly, he was still plagued with drops(he dropped 49.6% of his targets last year, ouch. 105 targets, 54 receptions). If he can get up there this year to 800-1000+ Minimize the drops, he’ll do well in FA next year. That is if we don’t offload him this year.

Samuel was widely considered a trade candidate the second Anderson was signed because he played a similar role last season.  Joe just seems to be late to the game because this info was leaked right after Anderson was signed.

If this report is true then it might be an indication that the team intends to take advantage of Samuel's all around skillset this season though.

This is the first I’m hearing of it. And regardless of similar skill set It’s not like we are bursting at the seems with high tier receivers. Not even mentioning he’s still cheap.

It’s an opinion post released less than 48 hours before the report from Carolina. Why would I pay attention to every article with an opinion about what we should do as a franchise?

Did Samuel really “drop” 51/105 passes last year, or did he simply not catch them for whatever reason (poor throw, PBU, etc.)? That seems EXTREMELY high for a drop rate.

Not that many. It’s all throws to him.

 He dropped 6 of 105.

If that’s the official statistic he dropped way more than 6. I’d put his drops/WR(DB) caused non completions in the 30’s out of the 50 he didn’t catch.

I’m not hating on him either, I hope he does well this season.

Make up whatever you want to. But those are the official stats based on the same criteria for every WR.. I can’t change facts because of what you “think” happened. Sorry.

I consider “drops” to be be contested throws that should have been caught. The fact remains he caught only 51.4% of the passes that went his way. For example that’s 10% less than Moore. Who also had a dip last year.

And until you put every other WR in the NFL through your eye test, how would you compare him to anyone?

Every game is on Game Pass. Where are all these other drops. What specific plays are the NFL stat guys giving him a “break” on? Having a hard time dismissing facts for a “cause I said so” point of view

The average completion rate is 15%~ higher than Samuel.

    • The only TEs from that last year's group under contract for next season are Ja'Tavion Sanders and Jordan Matthews. James Mitchell and Dominique Dafney are under reserve contracts. The team announced that they're going to let Tommy Tremble test free agency. Feleipe Franks is an unrestricted free agent. Ian Thomas is a likely cap casualty.
