NFL.com's fascinatingly great 4-round mock draft

Trading up to take James Lynch in the 1st... good grief. I don't want him with one of our top 3 picks, much less in the 1st. He's a mid-late round draft pick IMO. Quarterman is another guy who fits that "great college player who probably won't translate well" mold.

If we come out of the the first four rounds having traded our 3rd and 5th to come away with Okudah, Lynch, and Quarterman then we've failed miserably. But, it's a typical Hurney draft. Nail the first pick, then... oh wee mayne.

Chances are we will reach for one his former players, that's to be expected, but lets not reach that far.  If he is there in the third then maybe.

I could see us looking at him though, can he play strong side end on rushing downs? and maybe kick inside on passing downs?

My 4 round Panther draft

1st Brown DT Auburn

2nd Noah Igbinoghene CB Auburn

3rd Willie Gay LB Mississippi State

3rd by trade Biadasz C Wisconsin

Fits needs and upgrade each position. Biadasz can also play G until he moves over the next year.

I can see #38 being Lynch.  Wouldn't want it but Rhule and Snow are that big of fans of him.

I could swallow a late 2nd trade up or our 3rd at the very most.  38 needs to be a day 1 impact.  The top-50 talent in this draft is too damn good to get James Lynch that early as solid as he may be as a long term rotational lineman.

I believe they likely think that he IS a day one impact player at a position of dire need. Well, hell... what position outside of RB ISN'T a dire need for us?

If they take him way earlier than they probably should, I just hope they turn out to be right.

On the positive side, Lynch is quite a solid player.  I don't know if I see a star or anything but he has some fun reels.  THe talent likely available at 38 is going to be LEGIT though.  Lynch shouldn't be in consideration there.  Maybe a trade up around pick 55-ish.

It's not about what you did in college, it's about whether or not that translates to the NFL. I have major concerns when a guy is both undersized for his position AND didn't test all that well athletically. I mean, Michael Sam was a great college player too but he was undersized and didn't test well athletically.

Some guys just don't have the necessary talent to carry over their success to the next level of competition. I'm concerned Lynch is one of those guys.
