I can't foresee a situation where commercial truck drivers aren't considered essential. No matter what happens, essential supplies are still going to have to get to where they need to go.

I think my program director said that they are considered an essential business but the trucking school itself is not. So they could still have the school shut down but not their current drivers.

Trying to apply now but the website keeps crashing. I thought they were going off 2018 taxes though?

Website crashing? Good lord. Add that to the list of ways our government has failed us. We were totally unprepared for this.

Usually they send a wage verification to past employers in NC. This was what determines unemployment charges and who's insurance it comes from. I haven't seen any come in yet so I don't know and hope they are not using the 'business as usual' route. Using your 1040 tax return would make a lot more sense in this situation and hurry the process along.

To file in NC go to des.nc.gov and go to 1) sign up link.

None of these sites were designed with this kind of volume in mind so keep trying and good luck!

Colorado moved to a system where you have assigned days to apply based on the first letter of your last name. That's allowed their website to absorb the huge increase in volume. So far.

I live and work in a small rural area where 2 of the biggest non-healthcare employers had to close up and lay nearly everyone off. In a matter of just a few days over 1200 people got laid off and there are more to come.

I'm trying to avoid saying anything about my situation, but I'm in management and it's not looking good. Best case scenario is I take a demotion. Not very likely that will happen, though. I have a full-time job that is likely going to end and a part time job that is on hold and my wife was a substitute teacher. I help take care of my aged parents and pay their utilities in addition to all my own family's bills.

Needless to say, a lot depends on my ability to provide. I was actually just getting ready to take a third needed job, but that's on hold as well. I have 180k left in student loans.

My situation was hard before all this blew up. Now? Ugh.

$180k in student loan debt? Fuuuuuuuuug...

I think my wife and I are down to about $15k combined at this point.

Damn man, that's rough.

I was brought up believing it was a good investment. What a lie.

Considering every government in the world is in shutdown mode over this virus you really can’t blame governments. Name one pandemic or Plague that has come and gone throughout the history of mankind and name me one country that was prepared.

imagine living during times of the Black Plague where almost 50% of Europe’s population was wiped out.

Really feel sorry for everyone who doesn’t have a job right now. I hope this passes soon,

Same here.  My job is secure as much as it can be, but I have been trying to help some out of work friends.  One friend does maintenance  and coordinates maintance projects for a hotel, and he is on severly reduced hours, so I am paying him to do some handy man jobs around my house.  Trying to tip more than usual as well, on the rare occassions I get takeout.  And I bumped up my twice monthly contribution to the local homeless shelter.  We all need to try to do as much as we can.
