I think this virus is going to cause society to really focus on being virtual when it comes to business and communicating.   It was already becoming a trend and this just accelerates it even more.   Virtual doctors, virtual meetings, virtual schooling, etc.

Well I tried to apply through Bofa but you have to have an account and a lending history and a credit card. I have never gotten a loan and chose a debit card. So I don't qualify despite having a "preferred" small business account for ten years..

I've heard this. If the small business doesn't have debt to the bank, they've been denied. That shouldn't be happening and there is s lot of rethinking about this going on. The reason given was that banks couldn't easily verify employees. Keep calling them. Keep bugging them. Every day. Call your local House Rep. Don't give up.

BofA got dragged on twitter and reddit and decided to relax the debt thing a couple hours ago. Hasn't been reflected online yet but the CEO announced it. I really need to get rid of them.

For anyone in NC Aquesta responded to my email and doesn't have a portal yet but seemed ready to help me. Local NC bank. I don't have an account.

Does anyone know if there are rules for  layoffs?  In my company..women were laid off that had more seniority than men who were retained.

Probably because seniority made more money. A lot of companies are cutting less people but axing the ones who make more.

Don’t think it was a sexist move.

I'm not a lawyer , but that sounds like discrimination to me.  I would at least talk to one.

They are going to have to turn this economy back on sooner rather than later. You cannot just flip the switch on the biggest economy in the world.

there will come a point where the shutdown will have a more negative effect than the virus itself.

While @onmyown has a point given this crisis, especially if the company is struggling to maintain payroll in general. Edit: However if the employees were making the same or roughly the same amount of money. That theory would hold no water and there could potentially be two EEOC violations.

If you feel gender really had something to do with it IE: Men with seniority were held onto or other factors that might be worth investigating m. It is worth filing a complaint with the EEOC who are still in operation. https://www.eeoc.gov

If you are union, talk to your union as seniority rules are in place to avoid exactly this. They will work with the NLRB and the EEOC. However, outside of a union I don’t know if there was seniority rules in your contract, employee handbook or HR policies. So that’s hard to say and it will be more of an EEOC thing than a NLRB/EEOC thing.

Below is a link of what to do even though equal rights are not taking any more discrimination cases at this time there will be a list of Guidance for you to evaluate.

My brother finally got everything done. When he filed his first claim, it said "Did you look for work? NOTE- If you were laid off due to COVID19, click NO". When he clicked NO, it said "Claim denied". Tried to go back and change it, but it had already been denied. Next week, he's just clicking YES.

I despise that des web site - so poorly set up and with little to not explanation about what information they are sasking for.  And of course NO WAY to ask a real live human being.  3 weeks after being layed off I still have no idea if we are going to see any money or not.

I would do some research if I was him. It may be due to other factors and not just a computer error. IE: I’ve heard of people that haven’t worked a full year are getting kicked off, and others that haven’t had that issue. The system is so stressed right now it could be any number of things. Calling in would help but Apperently that system is locking out callers(repeat mostly) too.

The whole things a poo show.
