The question is, how many of those would have actually helped by remaining here? Maybe two? And you've forgotten other releases.

The locker room will change mightily and it's right that it should. Something in there took some really star level players and made them play well below their reputations. Those are all guys that would need to leave before a new coach can install a new culture. 

Remember, we wanted that. No more excuses. Mediocrity was no longer going to be tolerated. It also means that underperformers, big contract lay abouts, superstars, me too'ers, back room mumblers and those too loyal to prior coaches/star players would have to go.

That's why the list is so long. Rivera was a player's coach. Cam was the coolest guy anyone there had ever met and his cult of personality was pretty big in the locker room, too. You've got to clear it all out or you'll be stuck with a bunch of malcontents.

Maybe Addison or Irvin but your point is well-taken.  All the rest of those guys are either past their prime or are JAG's.

And Addison and Irvin are long in the tooth.

People want to hold onto a name, but the truth is, the team was not good last year even when accounting for losing Cam.  

No more was that evident that from the highest-paid defensive line in the league that got blown off the ball play after play.

Some of it may have scheme, but a lot of it seemed to these untrained eyes to being guys who were just getting beat.

At least (when) our defense gets wore out this year, it will be b/c of the lack of talent and/or young guys developing, not big-name guys half-assing it.

Other than Irvin and McCoy this team has lost 25 games with Bradberry, Addison, Olsen, Poe, Butler, Roten, and Williams in 3 years.  Maybe you see the reasoning why Tepper might have wanted them gone.  Hard to say we were successful when in 2 years the team lost 20 games and most came in the 2nd half of the season in both years.
