Cam apparently downplayed the shoulder injury wanting to play for his teammates and when obvious damage wasn't found on repeated MRIs it was put down as soreness and he continued to play

JFC you people lie.

Fugging shameless.

those rumors were circulating, but primarily after it came out that he hid the foot injury severity.   and, imo, you can't trust rumors much, even if Cam did fuel the fire with the foot stuff.

IMO the shoulder was different, and while he may have been playing thru the pain, given how often he sat out of practice etc he wasn't hiding it from the coaches.

He's clearly not hurting right now.

the question is if he can make it through a full season.

To be honest, the Panthers decisions tell me they were unconvinced he can make it through a season.  They know something we don't IMO.  It may not  be something that is going to end Cam's career, and I hope he makes it back, but it was some reason that they felt they couldn't count on him.  Perhaps it is an educated guess from the last 4+ years, perhaps it is knowledge about the shoulder, perhaps a bit of both.  But because insider sources were saying during last season that he was done here because the team didn't think he could make it through a full season, that tells me this was not about the foot healing.

Let's see what we know.

1.  Cam is regularly posting videos of himself doing all sorts of strenuous workouts and throwing the the football without restriction.

2.  Jake Delholmme went on national radio last week and said Cam was throwing it beautifully from day-1 of camp and all the problems last year were foot related.

3.  Cam passed a physical in Atlanta on Monday 3/23 with a doctor who his agents and the Panthers agreed on.

Cam's current physical condition is excellent.

Might teams want to have their own doctors confirm this?

Sure, but if there was a team seriously interested they would get him under contract and include specific language to address that situation.  Language that gives them a clear out if their doctors find something they believe to be problematic.

Very surprising that not one single team appears to have any interest in Cam....and I'm perplexed as to why.

Didnt Cam pretty much admit this?

Just about the foot, I think?

and anyway, as to why Cam hasn't been picked up: Because passing a physical is not the same as lasting an NFL season, and teams know that.  I think we will see Cam as the starting QB of a team this year, but it'll only be after someone goes down with injury I think.

Every goddam player in the League, unless amputations are involved (and even that didn’t stop Ronnie Lott), when asked “Can you go?” responds with “Put me in coach!”

When those players AREN’T named “Cam Newton”, they get admiration and praise for “toughing it out” and being a “soldier”.

When those players ARE named “Cam Newton” they get condemned for “hiding injuries”.

Same ol’ separate set of standards as it ever was.

1. Cam posting videos in no way proves he is NFL ready to play and take hits.

2.  Cam admitted the additional time off helped his shoulder even more telling me he wasnt 100% last year.  And if Cam was "throwing it beautifully from day 1" why was he on a pitch count in practice and his reps reduced?

3. Cam passing a physical was window dressing so he could get cut.  As you can tell the other teams aint buying it.

Very few of them make videos talking about how they basically hid the severity of an injury afterwards, though.  I agree that most athletes probably do downplay injury, and I don't really think it makes much of a difference in Cam's situation right now.  But when you were the face of the franchise and hadn't finished a year without injury/needing surgery/etc in several years, that kind of message was not the greatest PR move.

I still think his current status has more to do with the particular QB situation now, as well as concerns over his longevity across a season, than it does to do with anything he has posted on Instagram or whatever it is he uses.

His playing injured definitely didn't turn out well for HIM.  But you know what?  He was doing his level best to help the TEAM.

Seems I remember, with the foot injury, Cam couldn't even practice half the time because he couldn't put weight on the foot.  You know what one should NOT be doing if you can't put weight on one of your feet?  PLAYING QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL.

And for the shoulder, every swingin' Richard watching those games knew that Cam's shoulder was done because he was basically shot-putting the ball.  He had *nothing* like a normal throwing motion and *nothing* like we all knew he could throw by watching him 2011-17.  You know what one should NOT be doing if your shoulder is hurting so much you throw the ball like a shot-put?  PLAYING QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL.

Now, after every swingin' Richard could observe that Cam couldn't even bear weight on one of his feet in one season and was throwing the ball like a shot-put in another, you know who was responsible for the decision for him continuing to PLAY QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL?

Here's a hint: Their names AREN'T Cam Newton.

Here's another hint: Their last names start with RIVERA, HURNEY, and TEPPER.

There are plenty of examples where a team asked a player if "he's ready to go" and the player said no. If you are player and a coach ask you to "go in" and you know you are putting yourself at further risk then you are just stupid.

Sounds like you've never played football at any level before so I wouldnt expect you to understand the commitment you make not only for your team but your teammates. I played through injuries just as a lot of guys do it's not uncommon football just isnt for the weak or faint of heart
