Cam Newton: "They gave up on me"

If anyone should have to pay back Cam's salary over the past 3 of 4 seasons it is Ron Rivera.  He played Cam hurt and knew it.  And then, to pour salt on the wound, trades for Allen when Cam could have been had for the same trade pick.

Luke has a DPOY trophy, which is defensive MVP. Luke is top 10 at his position ALL TIME and has an argument for top 5. Cam unfortunately doesnt come close. Most people career wise have Cam (grab a bucket to throw up in) on Matt Ryans level. 1 MVP each. 1 superbowl appearance each. And other successes here and there. Luke is placed with Willis, Urlacher, and Singletary as the three backers right under the GOAT Ray Lewis.

DPOY is not even near the same level as league MVP. Cam was also OPOY, that equals out with Luke's DPOY. and now you add Cam's League MVP award on top of that.

Luke is vastly overrated by this fanbase and has been through most of his career when he was the centerpiece of terrible defenses. he's a good linebacker, sure, about the same on the field as Bobby Wagner, who people aren't discussing as a "first ballot."

Come on Rodeo--do you know how many NON QBs win NFL MVP?  In the last 10 years, the MVP was always QB.   When was the last time a defensive player won the award?  1986 (Lawrence Taylor).  You cannot compare Luke to Cam using an award it is nearly impossible to get.  HOWEVER:

Luke won Defensive rookie of they year and AP Defensive player of the year.   Luke led the league at his position throughout his career.  Cam never did.

You don't make decisions over money based on emotions if you do you will get beat up financially.

A Newton type QB is a finely tuned athlete.........like race horse.

You don't hope they get better after two years of not being unable to run the race. 

Cam has gone from a winning............to damaged goods in repair........to uncertain.

There comes a time when you need to make a decision based on revenue not emotions. This is a business........ask Brady about that.

And why do you think that is? It happens by mistake? No. Qb is hands down the most important position on the field for all 32 teams every single year. That is why they are usually the ones to win "Most Valuable Player" Cam 100% earned the MVP that year and there wasn't a single defensive player that was close.

Cam is a big question mark.  You do not expect a new coach and staff, ready to rebuild a franchise, to build it around a 31-year old question mark, do you?  He might be fine, but unless you are a doctor and have scanned his shoulder and foot and can guarantee that he is fully healthy for professional football, then you should be thanking this team for moving on and not making a mistake. 

Cam wanted a new deal----would you give it to him.  That is like getting engaged to a girl that was great for a long time, but she ballooned to 240 but has been on Jenny Craig so she promises to return to her original figure.  She has a great personality and everyone likes her, so do you slip that ring on that size 13 (yet shrinking a bit) finger?  She used to be hot and she is well liked---are you the bad guy for keeping that rock in your pocket?  You would like to wait to see how this thing turns out, but she is pressuring you--she wants commitment.   You look at pictures of her from 2015--she was very hot.  And you know that even if she loses the weight, she is more likely to put it back on because she has habits. 

Not to sound superficial, but some wanting to keep Cam based on 2015 and 2017 highlight reels is like dating a fat chick who used to be hot, hoping that she will one day return to hotness.  She wants 3 children, by the way.  Hitting a knee, are we?  It is just business.

Depends on your definition of GOAT. My definition would be someone that takes over games and forces teams to play them differently because they destroy the one-on-one matchups. 

GOAT is Steve Smith. Cam is second. Luke is probably the most consistent, but he's on defense and could literally make every single tackle in the game as the Middle Linebacker. 

If Steve and Cam had played with each other their entire careers, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

Edit: If he had Cam his entire career, Steve Smith would undeniably be the GOAT. I liked that Ragin Cajun but that dude was not as good as some on here seem to remember. Yes, even before his arm died.

Cam was elite as recently as 2018. He missed last year due to a foot injury and the last I checked the foot is a completely different body part than his shoulder. 

When Cam balls out for a different franchise and we're stuck watching Teddy struggle to throw 15 TDs I guarantee you'll be singing a different tune

Im actually NOT going by "this" fanbase, I'm going by others fanbases...  even Saints and Falcon fans would have Luke 10 ten ALL TIME and they hate us. He was the undisputed best MLB in the game for a good 4 or 5 years. At the beginning of his career it was between him and Willis, and the end him and Wagner, but in the middle he stood alone at the top. Cam only had one such year. 

And Luke actually IS overrated by our fan base but thats because some make the argument that he's the GOAT MLB, but he doesnt have an argument for that imo...therefore overrated, however he has a strong argument for top 5. Very strong.

The QB has more opportunities and this is about players not positions, but the QB does win the award like pitchers in baseball are credited with wins and losses.  Awards are not fair measures of talent and skill. 

Cam had a good year.  But to argue Cam is better than Luke,  referring to one season kinda loses the argument for those using 2015.  Yes, Cam deserved the award.  He had a great season.  Peyton Hillis was on the cover of Madden for one season's worth of work.

Year in and year out, Luke did his job---MLB---better than Cam did his job---QB.  The stats prove it.  Compare Cam to Brady, Brees, Wilson, etc. etc., and he was rarely in the top ten.  But to find Luke's equals, you compare him to Singletary, Lewis, Butkis...etc. etc. because he had no equals or superiors at LB...Wagner was close.  The greatest of all time at their positions is where Luke belongs.  Cam was exciting and good most of the time, but he was never the greatest of his current time at his position--except once.

You mean IF Cam balls out...I think there is more to his situation than we know.
