Cam Newton: "They gave up on me"

I would be fine with giving up on Cam if we had traded up for Tua or somehow to Burrow. But fuging hell, we picked TEDDY BRIDGEWATER over him. If I'm Cam I sign with the Broncos, dab all over the Panthers in BOA, as well as bring over the Lombardi trophy and write "you guys gave me Mike Shula for half a decade and then cut me loose" all over it.

You wouldn't be doing that with Denver, IMO.  Truth is, of the teams mentioned that I think are at all realistic, the Chargers may be the closest.

I didn't even especially like New England next season if Brady had stayed.  The only saving grace I saw with them is their division is such a clusterfug, if Buffalo doesn't finish the job they could be unchallenged.....yet again.

true, he wasn't without flaws in that system, but the idea behind keeping cam for a year was that he'd had his chance to heal up, and now we were gonna see what we could do. in the first half of 2018 he wasn't fully healed (as is tradition), and i think that the running dynamic + him having actually good targets  now (lol funchess) could've definitely made a difference and open that system up even more as it gives the defense more to prepare for and worry about, not to mention the obvious ability to throw deep darts down the field. i fail to see how signing an inferior version of alex smith with an injury history makes sense over keeping him on a one year prove it deal to test the waters. worst case scenario we suck and have a chance at a qb in 2021 (or can sign one next year), best case scenario cam shows out and gets an extension. instead we chose to spend 60 million on mediocrity and still got nothing for cam.

You see who Can was and yearn for that again. Rhule sees who he is and isn't willing to stake his season on hoping he is 100%. In this system Bridgewater was pretty good last year. He knows the system and played well in it. If we were only going to keep Cam this year I can see why they think Bridgewater on a 3 year deal is a better fit right now.  Again it wasn't what I wanted but then again I don't know the system we are going to use while they do  I just hope they are right

bridgewater played with the best supporting pieces arguably in football, and won two of those games without even throwing a touchdown pass. he has proven in what we've seen of him to be a guy who doesn't lose you games, while cam has proven he can be a gamewrecker in the past, and the last we saw of him at even 70%, despite the shoulder not being good, was outproducing his mvp numbers (in some ways). i don't think cam can't return to what he was, maybe rhule'll be right and im totally wrong as i am just a fan, but i believe cam earned the right to play out his one year deal and i am extremely skeptical to the direction we're going in. it feels like settling with mediocrity.

I don't think you are alone. To.me the best approach is take a wait and see attitude and save the bitching for later in the year when it might be well deserved.

Free-agent quarterback Cam Newton is now waiting for his next NFL opportunity. In the meantime, he’s working out — and sharing his workouts on social media.

A set of images and videos includes one in which Newton, after a set of pulldowns (great for the arms, I think it is), says this: “All I know is work. All I know is work. That’s all I know. They gave up on me.”

He’s surely talking about the Panthers, who cut Newton earlier this week. And he surely seems to be motivated by the decision to rip up his contract and to make him a free agent.

Although Newton seems to be in tip-top shape, the NFL’s COVID-19 procedures make it impossible for teams to give Newton a proper physical, for now. Given his foot, ankle, and shoulder issues of the past, it’s critical for any interested team to be able to have its doctors closely inspect him.

No reports or rumors have emerged linking Newton to a new team, yet. The Chargers should be interested. Other teams (Dolphins, Patriots, Washington, Raiders) possibly, maybe could become interested. Surely, at some point, someone will give Newton a closer look and decide to do business with one of the best quarterbacks in the business, when healthy.

Cam held the shovel that ended up digging his grave.  He tried to play on his injury last year and probably extended his recovery.  HE decided to let it heal rather have surgery early and then HE decided to have surgery latter.  Unfortunately the recovery time extended into the industry shutdown.  The Panthers were NOT responsible for HIS decisions on heal vs surgery.  If HE decided  earlier to have the surgery, it well could have been medically cleared prior the combine.  At that time much of this could have been worked out better for each party. But as of today...no truer words have ever been spoken.
