Part ways at the end of a contract like normal people do.

A pretty high percentage of players get cut before the end of their contracts, especially players who are owed big money.

What the Panthers are doing here is very much what "normal people" in the NFL do. Just ask Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice and plenty of others.

So yes, you want the team to make a bad football and financial move so Cam could have a job elsewhere.  Good deal.

That's honorable. Do you have honor? Can you be trusted?

Should we inform your creditors or future business partners?

If a player did that, Cam maybe, you'd be in his sht for that.

You can always elect to have surgery later. You can't undo surgery once it's done. It's not unreasonable to pursue other avenues first, especially with the types of tricky to manage injuries Cam has had.

I'm not hating on Cam, and hold no ill will...that needs to be said first.  His body, his career, and his life, not mine.

However, you need to be getting some good advice from those trusted around you, maybe Cam wasn't?

This wasn't the same old Panthers any longer, Cam hadn't been healthy in a while, and you are nearing the end of your contract.  You have to look at the Panthers and assume that with a new owner, meant new rules....and a new direction for the franchise.

I can tell you were I Cam, I would have shut it down the minute I heard the words "may be able to avoid surgery", and gotten that foot fixed...just too risky otherwise.  Ron could easily be out, Marty could easily be out....and my contract makes it real easy for the Panthers to move on from me.......I'm going to try my absolute best to be healthy come time for some of those decisions to be made.  That was not the route that Cam wanted to go, but here we are.

It wasn't cool. Be honorable. They do terrible things in other countries, doesn't mean we do that here.

What if Cam asked for an extension before the end of his contract....is that honorable?  Is it honorable to sit out training camp if you are under contract?

This is a business, honor is nice, but I'll go by what's written down.

You sign many contracts day to day in your life?

Did he sit out? Would he sit out(value)?

It was disrespectful, Olsen then Newton. Rhule said publicly that he looked forward to coaching him.

I'm with the rebuild now. Start at QB.

Wow, throwing out Garett Gilbert, nice.

I don't think that Herbert has the killer instinct to be an upgrade over Bridgewater.  That's it.  Herbert is a smart kid who has had some real challenges at Oregon.  I just don't think he's a franchise QB that will lead us to the Super Bowl.  I think he's much more a Blane Gabbert type.  Got the tools, but lacks the fire.  I think he's better than Gabbert, but I don't think he's going to upgrade our current QB room.

I'm not a football expert by any means, and I'm probably wrong.  But I know the team has more needs and there are better players.  Teddy is going to make $40M+ the next two years to lead this team.  To me, that tells me how much the team believes in the current crop of available QBs.

that makes him the lowest paid non rookie QB starter contract in the league, if the stat 'gurus' here arent full of it

by any stretch it's a paltry sum for his position

If the team has absolutely no intention of drafting a QB at #7, then there was no point in parting with Cam.

Parting with Cam was how you got TB.. Teddy wasn't coming without a promise to start.. How are you going to promise another QB a starting job and still plan to keep Cam in Carolina??

Obvious to anybody listening to the leaks Teppers team was gifting the media while everyone else Cam, Rhule out there selling a different picture. I believe QB1 when he said "blindsided".

If Tepper was an honest dealer he would have released Cam at the end of last season because THAT'S what he'd planned to do the whole time. For him it was about clearing the building.

Be honest with everyone and yourself and do that. Don't carry on with drama and disinformation just to cut the guy and get nothing at the WORST possible time for Cams free agency.

He intentionally depressed Cams value in the market point blank to low ball him later, business people saw that coming from the get go. Actions speak louder than words.

Tepper doesn't come from the hospitality industry like Jerry Richardson. He obviously lacks some social graces. How about some magnanimity? Less FaceTime? How about you make this about trying to field the best coach/team possible without tying their hands and throwing coach under the bus to relish in your long awaited f' you to Cam Newton, that's what you said you were going to do.

In NO world is Cam Newton inferior to Teddy Bridgewater. All due respect to TB but that was a joke. Not an upgrade.

Why do the social media drama around Rhule, Cam and then do it when and the way you did. Not good business. Took things personal and set Cams free agency opportunities down to nothing in the ill-conceived tactic. Him building a bad rep wins you nothing.

Not proud of the New Orleans Saints nuthugging by coaching either. Not good role models. Sean Payton isn't your football friend. He will grind your career into dust if he lands Cam Newton, heck he doesn't need Cam for that.

Rant over.

If Cam didn't see this coming, why would he start lobbying on social media?

I think Panthers will not wait until next year to draft the QB of the future, but will do that this year by drafting Herbert and let him learn behind Bridgewater for a year (or two).  The rest of the draft picks will be used for Defense.

Marty has shown a lot of interest in Herbert.   Now he may be posturing for potential trade down opportunities to acquire more picks but I think the more likely scenario is that he gets drafted by the Panthers.

How would you feel about that if it happens?

Herbert's comp is Brady Quinn, we would be making a terrible mistake

Great WR and OT draft? Take a QB that needs to sit for at least a year in the top 10 and go heavy on the D picks. Sounds like a Panther move.

Marty loves to go against the grain any uses the 3rd round on too many gambles. In a heavy OT and WR draft with a couple of defensive unicorns in Okudah and Simmons I just do not think you should get cute. I would love to see a OT in rd 1 and a WR at some point with the rest being defense. If there is 1 coversion player drafted ala Charles Godfrey, Sharrod Martin or Armanti Edwards we need to demand Marty's immediate resignation.
