Good signing in a vacuum. In reality, we just signed a deep threat with Teddy "dink and dunk" Bridgewater at QB.

Again...why are you a Mod?

you complain about this team more than most and even said a month ago you were ready to give up and pick another team.

I mean he really does.  Negative as hell.  He feeds the bottom feeders which is very concerning.

The major problem is the Saints won't let their draft team make the round 2-4 picks for us.  As long as we have you-know-who making those picks, they are relatively worthless in our hands.

But overall, I agree with your thinking.  I just wish we could execute it.  Maybe next year (he says, hoping something changes after the draft).

The problem isn’t more picks as some people say. To be honest more picks would be better for Marty, not trading up. Then those comp picks can be used for the guys he overdrafts. I do think the draft will be different with Rhule and team. That’s said I can’t shake the feeling that our strategy is just moronic. If we are signing all these short deals and letting players walk that would seem to scream complete rebuild and yet we don’t care about comp picks and spending cap dollars in 2020 that can be rolled over.

It’s almost as if Teddy and Robby were signed to make it look like we are trying to be competitive and to soften the blow of losing Cam. The only thing that will soften the blow is another franchise QB. There’s no way to get back to 4 playoffs in 5 years with a SB run by half assing a rebuild.

Ok bugs...when this team wins much sooner than you think I will expect you to remember this offseason.  This is great stuff man.

Sure will. When this team is 6-10 and we watch Lawrence and Fields look like studs, I will expect you to remember this offseason.

Signing Teddy Dishwasher and Anderson isn't gonna keep us from getting a top 5 pick. It'll just give us 3 young stud WR and a stud RB for our future QB

When I see the offensive moves, I think I get what we are doing and it gets me a bit pumped.  Defense is not good.

We are picking up young players that fit Brady's offense.  I'm good with that, although the OL still concerns me.  I guess the plan is to address the defense heavily in the draft.

If nothing else, we should be a young team next year.  That is a switch.  Young and on short-term deals.

We weren't young last year (I saw somewhere that we were 25th youngest roster) and we finished with 5 wins.  If I am going to have 5 wins, I'd rather be the 8th youngest team than the 8th oldest.  One may have hope or be part of the building process, the other screams rebuild.  While older teams tend to be more likely to make the playoffs, when those older teams don't put up wins it usually signals the end for that core roster.

Why the Panthers made the move

Speed. Anderson is not a multifaceted receiver known for showcasing the finer points of playing the position. He is a former college defensive back who ranks first in air yards per target (14.9), sixth in yards per reception (14.8) and sixth in percentage of receptions gaining more than 15 yards (35.4) among the 40 wideouts with at least 200 catches over the past four seasons. Partly because Anderson is only a deep threat and partly because of his quarterbacks, he ranks last among those 40 receivers in reception rate (54.2 percent) and 37th among them in receptions, despite missing only two games.

Coach Matt Rhule’s ties to Anderson from their time together at Temple made this a natural marriage, but the price had to be key from Carolina’s perspective. The Panthers got a short-term deal that keeps Anderson outside the top 25 wide receivers in average per year. Carolina is getting a one-dimensional player whose single dimension — speed — carries value to a point.

What it means for the market

The $10 million average matches the figure former Panthers receiver Devin Funchess secured leaving Carolina for Indianapolis last offseason.

Signing grade: B.

No one denies Anderson's speed. He can run very fast in a straight line. As long as the Panthers are not vastly overpaying for that one quality — or expecting Anderson to provide more — they can come out OK here. If the Panthers decide they want more in a couple years, that will be understandable. That appears to be where the Jets were at this offseason. They seemed to hope Anderson could develop into more, and when that did not happen, they decided they could live without him. The Panthers could feel similarly down the line, but for now they've gotten value on a deal that resets expectations for Anderson to a more realistic level — a level lower than had Anderson remained a Jet.
