What is the point of a better player on a terrible team for just one year??

Because the Panthers still need to compete. Honestly what do you want? Are you so scared of the division that we should not sign players and allow the team to be so bad that the good players regress? Should we willing suck so badly that we can never sign free agents?

You're thinking about this as if in the 2021 draft has a savior that only we can draft and will single handily turn this organization around.

Remember the 'suck for luck' year. Well Luck stayed in school. There is no guarantee in future drafts. You play to win now.

I actually think the Panthers are going a good job of taking the cap hit this year. signing RA to a 2 year deal is a good signing. We are setting up well for future years.

What are we doing as a franchise? I have no idea.

What about tanking and rolling cap??? I just.....I don't even know if they know what they are doing.

This makes no sense at all. We just threw away a 4th rounder for Addison to sign a guy for $20M over two years when this draft is ridiculously deep at WR. A deep threat for Teddy.

We are back to tossing away comp picks and avoiding the franchise QBs available in 2021.

I like Robby but the last thing you need to sign in FA with this draft is a WR.

It’s comical to read this PFF top FAs: https://www.pff.com/nfl/free-agency

Robby was #18 and Teddy #19 and their strengths are polar opposites. Deep threat for a guy who doesn’t throw deep. We basically are paying these two $31M a year and gave up a 3rd and 4th round com pick. Love this:

Bridgewater has put himself back in the conversation for a starting job with the understanding that he's likely going to limit the turnover-worthy plays (2.1% was seventh-lowest in 2019) to go with a low percentage of big-time throws (2.9% ranked 28th), but that skillset could play in a situation with a strong defense and surrounding talent.

It is amazing. Awe-inspiring. We should all bow down in reverence to the numerous successful NFL team building GMs, coaches, and scouts who choose to grace us with their presence on The Huddle. I mean, some of them are even soothsayers, as they have already predicted terrible things for the Panthers for years to come.
Honored, I’ll tell you. Honored.

Curtis Samuel is literally not a WR.

I don't usually get in the middle of a pissing match, but both of you guys are off base.  Samuel is a good #2 WR.  I can't count the number of times he beat the coverage and the ball didn't get there because Allen's deep ball was pretty bad or else he was flat on back.  That said, DJ is the clear #1 WR on this team.

True, Curtis came out of college as a RB, but has got better each year after getting bit by the injury bug early on which stunted his WR transitional growth.  He's a legit NFL WR now, he just needs an accurate deep ball passer to prove it. Two things needs to happen, we need the OL to protect the QB and recommit to the deep passing game.  CMC is the man, but he doesn't need to be our leading receiver...that makes us one dimensional on offense.

This WR corps is better now than what we are use to.  We all should be happy about that.

Wasn't he basically 5-0 with Brees out with 9 tds and 2 ints. I don't count that one loss because he came off the bench and saints were down after he went out. Maybe u should look at stats before u speak?

Maybe you should look at all of them before cherry picking to support your biased opinion.

second, playing 5 games for the Saints for a good team and Sean Payton is like saying Kyle Allen was the greatest ever for his first 5 games,.. we saw how that turned out.

im saying we grabbed a guy that played 5 games for a great team just after being out of football for a long while and playing likeshit before he was out,... and we gave him $30 million a year.

maybe you should look at the whole picture before washing dishes

So much for rolling cap. We sign a WR to(basically) a one year $12 mil deal. How does this make sense if we are tanking or trying to have a boatload of cap???

I am getting the impression they are not trying to tank and that is extremely concerning.

This is all Hurney.  He's pumping up Rhule making him think they are only a few players away from competing.  He's in full tilt retool mode.  I'm starting to wonder just who the hell is in charge around BOA.

If anyone should be upset with this signing is the 'tanking' crowd.  Apparently Hurney and company wants to compete and not play opossum for the rest of the League.  Obviously there are ramifications on down the road and that can (will be) debated at length, but solely focusing on 2020...this front office is not settling for door mat status.

Panthers signed WR Robby Anderson, formerly of the Jets, to a two-year, $20 million contract.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal includes $12 million in 2020. Anderson will be reuniting with coach Matt Rhule, whom he played for at Temple. A field stretcher who can also do work underneath, Anderson unquestionably makes the Panthers better, and will be an upgrade on slow-developing Curtis Samuel opposite D.J. Moore. It is an absolutely atrocious landing spot from a fantasy perspective, however, as Moore and Christian McCaffrey should dominate targets from a conservative Teddy Bridgewater. Anderson will have a hard time upgrading on the WR2/3 limbo he was often stuck in with the Jets.
