I hope I'm wrong, but I think Cam's career might be over.

I think Cam Newton got the unfortunate outcome of the off season given his health, last year of contract, covid-19

Why would Cam be released today, logically thinking Cam was kept on the team until this week so that TeddyB or anyone  else targeted by Panthers does not have leverage on their contract. Panthers can say this is what we offer you the new QB or we always can pay Cam for 1Y. Looks like TeddyB's Y1 contract is close enough to Cam's 2020 contract.

If I was Cam a month ago and I was confident of my health next season, I would have read the tea leaves with Rhule and ex Saints QB coach and connected the dots and said I have no desire to play for Panthers and asked that Panthers show commitment or release him immediately (or privately requested that if he was on cordial terms with Tepper, as it worked out for  Greg Olsen) did and got himself a better opportunity at free agency.

So then its about Cam's health, maybe its dicey enough that he wanted to wait and see how this turns out, (the 'manipulate the narrative' post on IG was just posturing then),  Maybe the organization does not think he will be available as a full time starter this year at his current contract.

If I were Cam and knew I am healthy I would have asked to be released last month and hoped to land somewhere soon.

If I were Cam and I had no confidence in my health, and I wanted to grasp at any chance in the NFL I would have entered into a team friendly/prove it/ type of lowball offer. 

If I were Cam and I had no confidence in my health right now and I would like to wait for some more time to reevaluate myself, I would do what exactly what he did and stay put and get cut and get healthier and hope to sign later for a better offer.

How many are hoping Cam is finished so they can say that they were right & feel good about themselves? How many to verify their belief that Rhule & Tepper are smarter than the rest of all of the NFL? Cam will sign and start for another team in 2020 IMO [who waited and saved $10m or better] His new team will end up with a vastly better record than the Panthers & show Tepper & his gang of yes men how pro-football works.IMO

Possibly, but I doubt it. Cams only issues are not physical any longer, he let something get in his head and he can’t fight it off.
