Teams that had enough cap space to trade for Cam

Half the league had the cap room to take on Cams contract. Here’s every team that had the cap space to trade for cam and didn’t.

I listed their QB they’ve gone with instead.

Browns- Mayfield

Skins- Haskins

Jets- Darnold

Texans- Watson

Dolphins-  Rosen/Fitzpatrick 5th overall pick+ 2 more first round picks this year

Eagles- Wentz

Lions- Stafford

Colts - Rivers

Broncos-  Lock

Bills - Allen

Titans -  Tannenhill

Chargers - Taylor/ 7th overall pick

Bucs -Brady

Cowboys- Prescott

Bengals- Joe Burrow/#1 pick

Jaguars -  Minshew

Didn’t realize how small NE’s cap space was. No wonder why they weren’t trading for him. They’d have to sign him to a multi-year deal.

Also, Short’s cap hit dwarfs everyone else after Cam leaves. Why the hell are we wasting so much money on him? ($13M in salary this year) We know it’s a rebuild. Cut the wasted space. Cut him and we’ve got about $41M in space to rollover.

Bills should try to sign him to push Allen.

They'd never do it, but honestly that one is the most intriguing to me.  Allen has some similarities to Cam already, the Panthers connections, etc., but I also don't think Cam is willing to sign to be a backup.

Unless he goes to NE, LA, or Jax...I honestly don't know if Cam signs with anyone to start the season. He waits for an injury and gets a call a few weeks into the season.

Cam has never had to learn a system that wasn’t built for him. He’s not the kind of player that can come in last minute. Especially since he hasn’t played in a year.

LA (and Jax now I guess) are prob his only options. Both might decide to draft someone instead.

If he gets signed, it probably won’t be until after the draft.

Jaguars like Minshew. And honestly, they should. He was great with pretty much no help from OL, receivers or D last year.

And he’s cheap. I think they have cap issues this year.

In all honesty, if Cam had different personal advisers and had done the shoulder surgeries earlier, and definitely did the foot surgery earlier, this story could have turned out so completely differently. I mean, he could have still been our starter going into the year OR he would have been healed up and able to demonstrate such enough to have attracted attention.

There are so many teams on that OP list that could have benefited from Cam, including ourselves, but there's just this big, big cloud of uncertainty hanging over his health and capabilities. People talk about "prove it" contracts, but Cam has been sitting on the biggest "prove it" of his career and apparently has done nothing but a few edgy vlogs/vids to grow interest and allay doubts.

Cam, I think he just got too cool for school and might have blown it. It saddens me. The guy was great.

Why would any team be stupid enough to trade for newton when they knew he was being released

You don’t have to compete with other interested teams in signing him. Plus you inherit a contract with all the guaranteed money already paid out.
