This has been a point of contention over the last few months.

Tepper never said "if he's healthy, we're keeping him" or "if he's healthy, he's our starter". He always said generic things like "if he's healthy, he's elite" or "if he's healthy, we can talk".

Some folks kept hearing what they wanted to hear even with some of us saying you needed to pay attention to the wording.

I'd say having him released after he passed a physical is pretty good evidence that they never planned to keep him.

Truly a sad day for Panthers' fans.

For nine years, much of the Carolinas hated Cam Newton, downplayed how great at football he was, made fun of the way he dressed, and spoke in barely coded language about him. Now that he’s gone, cats talk about him the way they quote MLK on Jan. 18 — insincerely.

Glad someone in the media saw it.

Anyways, it’s a sad day. Grew up with the panthers; I can remember as a kid barely anyone in Winston rooting for the panthers. Us original panther fans used to get clowned by those in state for rooting for the panthers. That lasted well into my college years at A&T. You’d be lying to yourself if you said the Panthers were supported in the Carolinas pre Cam. It’s why I laugh at all of the Cam hugger jokes. “Cam Huggers” are majority Carolinians who didn’t rock with the panthers before Cam.

I joke and troll, but I’ll always be a panthers fan (while still rooting for Cam wherever he goes). The black and blue you see all over this state now is Cam’s doing. It’ll be a lot less these next few years coming up, and it ain’t coming back unless another polarizing star returns to the Carolinas. Folks here hate polarizing, though, and can’t handle a star. Well, I believe they can, that polarizing star just has to look and act the part *chuckles*

Many of us tried to tell you all this was going to happen after week 2 last season. He may play again, but he will be no more than average. He is on a fast downhill slide and can't stay healthy.

On to the next. I just want the Panthers to start winning in the near future. This “1 good season, 2 crap season” rut we are in has to end.
