Rookie contracts are pretty much based on draft position and not playing position

I meant, with the what TB5 is structured, does it make sense to draft one at 7 this year, or is QB now off the table?

It doesn’t matter. A QB at 7 gets paid like a backup QB for 4 years. Even top 5 picks next year don’t make enough to be bad cap hits. The only impact on selecting a QB is liking a guy enough. I just hope we don’t waste pick 7 on Herbert. The QBs next year are way better and pick 7 should be a bonafide stud just based on the number of studs and QBs.

Bridgewater's deal allows us to draft elsewhere and look at it again next year when we are drafting in the top 10 again. Very possibly the year after also. His deal is during the time of least competitiveness so it really doesn't matter and I don't see how throwing a rookie out there helps much, example David Carr. If we still don't have a decent LT next year then we would have a ways to go. The coaches need to step up and coach these players up and the ones that can't need to be gone regardless.

We can easily afford a QB at #7 but the question is more whether we are looking in that direction. I think with the Bridgewater and PJ Walker signings, I would say we are done at QB for this offseason, unless something crazy happens like a Tua free fall.

One thing few talked about when we signed TB was that it bought us time.  Before the signing, we had a starting QB under contract for one year, whose health/durability we had questions about.  IMO, that would have elevated the QB position in priority, either by draft or FA.  Even extending Cam would not have resolved that until well into the season, if he could stay on the field.  Now we have him (at least for the time being) and another starter who is signed on a manageable deal for three years.  That pushed the priority of the QB position back, even if/when we release/trade Cam.

Given our list of needs is almost as long as the list of positions on a football field, there is no rush and puts us in a position to be patient for a while and wait for "our guy" to be available.

I am curious to see how/if they plan to build a team here. Right now we are basically not committed to almost anyone on the roster outside of Shaq. Our "core" players is an extremely small group that could get a lot smaller after this coming season. So are we going to try and build a team AFTER we get our QB??? If so.....that's pretty ass backwards.

Gawd I hope not, unless somebody falls to us this year or next that walks on water.  Then again, people thought the Golden Calf walked on water.  Some though Manziel walked on water.

This draft is going to tell me a lot about our rebuilding plan.  And let's just say any potential personnel move in the front office after the draft will speak as loudly as the draft.
