Newton: "I'm unemployed"

It appears to me there is a bit of retaliation going on between the team and Newton.  They are going to hold his rights until the last second before they release him if no trade offers unfold.

I agree on the last second release but believe it's simply because that's what is in the best interest of the Panthers.

I also agree the relationship is dysfunctional.  Reminds me of the old quote "never pick a fight with anyone who buys ink by the barrel and paper by the ton."

Cam picked a fight with the wrong guy.

Again, my belief is Tepper is always going to do what's in the best interest of the Panthers but any benefit of the doubt he might have been willing to afford Cam went out the window with the posting of the videos.

Spotrac doesn't count the $2,000,000 until this year.

No, they actually do in the earnings. That’s why his cap hit for 2020 is $21M ($2M dead cap) and his earnings estimate is $19M for 2020. If he stays on the roster for 2020, we hand him a check for $19M but we get a cap hit of $21M. $2M of the cap hit is monies Cam has already received but never hit our cap (how signing bonuses work). Just look at his cap numbers and then look at the earnings tab. We won’t pay Cam a dime in 2020 if we release or trade him.

You're correct, I was looking at the other page.

Heck, it's even better than previous thought.

Total earnings = $121,393,521.

That's a damn good living!  Hopefully he saved a bunch.

He’ll be fine. Plus, looks like he’ll get some donations from the guys who think he’s struggling.

Wow. Like I said, they don't understand. NFL QBs don't carry themselves like Cam. They want you to be corporate America, not that big kid from Atlanta that loves the game and wears your emotions on your sleeves. Perceptions!

This isn't Cam being insensitive to the current situation. It's how he expresses himself. He's hurting right now and not quite sure how to express it.

And for the record, there have been unemployed families trying to figure out where their next meal was coming from long before COVID19 came showing her tail.

see above comment...

Teddy B will have to look over his shoulder with these fans. Can't even post an innocuous video to social media without being painted a greedy out of touch athlete despite a decade of doing good deeds throughout the community and never getting in any legal trouble off the field.

I'm pretty much at the end of my rope with the white folks in our fanbase. Too many degenerates.

Sometimes it's not about race, you do take that possibility into account right?

It could be that Cam is taking a tone deaf approach right now in a world where real people who don't have millions of dollars are/have losing jobs, can't make rent, pay for utilities and have no health care? That some folks, black and white, aren't sitting there waiting for someone to offer them a few million dollars, but instead are just hoping they can find work at a CVS or Amazon distribution center for part time wages and no benefits just so they can feed their families? That there are people not hoping for a $12 million offer but are actively praying for a $1,200 check from the government that will be too little and probably too late?

Maybe there's a world of folks with real problems that just don't have the patience or time for a millionaire to woe as me himself pubicly.

How's things up your street, man?

You'd think Cam had killed a bunch of dogs or something.

If cam was healthy he would have a job.  Lets not make this more than it is.  If he could win games for a team they wouldnt care what he does and how he expresses himself.  Right or wrong the reputation about him now is that he is hurt, quite possibly chronically and he is injury prone.  No team is going to have him on the hook for 20 million (if he would even play for that) not knowing if he can even play.  I suspect, as I said all along, we will cut him and he is going to have to ease himself back into football on another team probably as a backup.

Again lets not make this about race or how he carries himself.  He simply cannot play right now and teams know it.

I am trying to understand why you think folks on here are racist about cam when most are ecstatic about Bridgewater?
