Will Grier

Not going to call him a bust just yet . Solid qb in college , he was destined to fail last year , he’s got no experience at the nfl level and he was just thrown into the fire with a terrible oline and terrible coaching . There was definitely a learning curve with him going from a college offense to a complex but terrible Norv turner offense . Will looked lost out there , he looked like he didn’t know what was going on which most likely cost his mistakes , he was not ready for the spot light as a starting qb. Not every wbu can just come in from college and become a star some people are hands on and learn from experience that’s what I’m assuming from will grier . This camp and preseason is extremely important for him because he likely is the odd man out unless he shows up and proves us wrong . I’m rooting for the kid don’t want another early round bust .

I have nothing against the guy so I'm rooting for him, but damn he looked bad last year. Like worse than Jimmy Clausen bad.

I think his chances of being on the roster this season are slim to none. Signing two free agent QBs this off-season sends a pretty clear message to the QBs on the roster from last season. They're definitely looking to replace you.

Well, he was given a poo sandwich to work with. The jury is still completely out on him. Lame duck coach, fubar line, people giving up on the season. What did people expect him to do? lol.

For every bust, there's fifty different guys on here telling us that, although he stinks, you can't officially call him a bust because he hasn't stunk for enough seasons yet. Truly, a brilliant approach to life.

If Grier isn't a bust, it's simply because he's a third-round QB and expectations were always low. He sure does stink, though!

It looks bad when he got benched and Kyle Allen came in on his first drive scores a td and brought us into the red zone on his second drive

Yeah, the people who claim he was in this uniquely bad position are overlooking the fact that Kyle Allen as bad as he looked at times looked infinitely better in the same situation than Grier ever did.

What I'm saying is that even given the circumstances, he looked bad. Even in the worst surroundings, real talent will shine through in flashes, and that didn't happen. 

Kyle Allen, who isn't even close to being good enough to start in the NFL, performed considerably better in similar circumstances.

uhhh...you mean the same Kyle Allen that had time to get familiar with everyone, get in rhythm, and still got benched becuase he sucked ass towards the end of the season, Kyle allen? Yeah I don't think that's a huge compliment or you're helping the situation get better by putting Kyle allen as an example. Clearly, experience will always shine more than someone who was thrown to the wolves like Grier was. Allen had what Grier didn't, experience, even he looked shaky in his first start against a stains team that had literally nothing to play for. 

 

Grier was a rookie playing with a new OC and relatively another oline since it's been a carousel all year. So again, I don't see why he gets the poo and gets crucified every time by the huddle.

Grier looked awful. He looked awful in camp. He looked awful in preseason. He looked awful when he finally got a shot in the regular season.

I might feel differently if at any point he showed any promise what so ever, but he looked perfectly awful every step along the way.

That's not crucifying the guy, it's just stating the obvious. At this point, it would shock me if Grier manages to have an NFL career.

It has been rumored that some group of the Three Stooges (Hurney, Rivera, Turner) hand-picked him to develop into a future starter or top-level backup.  I think they underestimated how much of a project transitioning him from college to the NFL level would be.  But I also think there was little development done last year.

Let's put it this way: "Rivera" and "development" should never be used together in any sentence pertaining to football.

I don't think Grier has the type of skills Brady wants for his offense.  Whether he would get picked up by somebody else, probably wind up on a practice squad, and eventually develop into a decent backup is still very much in front of the jury.  A couple of games behind an awful OL on a flailing team does not tell me much.

It certainly seems like a pretty short list of players who considerably improved under Rivera's watch. Most of our best players under Ron came into the league showing a lot of promise already. Lots of guys peaked very early in their careers before falling off hard. That's the opposite of development.

Because Grier looked terrible when he was throwing the football. Even accounting for every other factors, he looked absolutely terrible at throwing a football to people, which is an important skill for an NFL quarterback. He'll be out of the league in two years.
