In the current roster, who has the most the prove?

Recommended Posts

In order:

Shaq (can QB the defense)

Jackson (better at playing CB than running his pie hole)

Paradis (play to his contract expectations)

Thomas (remotely fill Greg's shoes)

Little (show he can be a starting G and swing tackle)

Burns (hold up as 3 down 4-3 end)

KK (return to pre-injury form)

Grier (that he belongs on any NFL roster)

1. Teddy Bridgewater

2. Curtis Samuel(contract coming up)

3. Shaq Thompson

4. Taylor Moton(contract coming up)

5. Christian McCaffery(contract coming up)

6. Donte Jackson

7. Tre Boston

8. DJ Moore(contract coming up)

I think most of the rest of the guys like Okung, Paradis, Short, etc. are probably not in the future plans so I don't really include them.

I want to see how Tre, shaq, and KK step up as leaders---Frankly, I am not confident any of them are that kind of person.

I am assuming KK is not part of our future plans at his age, so I excluded him. I agree on Shaq and Tre. I am not sure we really have any players on the roster that seem to have over leadership qualities. But, in fairness, we aren't with the team day in and day out to know who is fulfilling that role.

Frye/Gano---who it gonna be?  both kick it to the middle of next week but they miss the 30 yard fgs/extra points too much.

One day, there will be a team that goes for 2 more than 1.  You heard it here first.

The main thing I worry about--and this is sad---is how much of a role Marty has--

Every time somebody posts a name or list, I find myself nodding and mumbling "yeah, him too."

I think Shaq and Ian are the two that I personally want to see step up to their new roles.

But with a new regime and philosophy, I think anybody on this roster who is penciled in as a starter and is 27 or under has to prove their worth.  Everybody should consider themselves on a one-year contract.  Over that, with an exception or two, they are probably not in the long-term plans, anyway.

And somebody mentioned Cam earlier.  I have given up on him being around, but wherever he lands, he is in a huge "prove it" situation.

Whenever I hear anyone bemoaning losing comp picks or wanting to trade down for later picks, this comes to mind.  I might otherwise agree with them, but that hangs over us like three buzzards circling as we walk through the desert.

Gone are the Davis and Luke days--I do know that when the lead dog in the pack dies, a new wolf steps up.  So let's see if laws of nature take hold.

I do wonder if the removal of any strong leaders was intentional so that it would make the coaching staff the focal point of the leadership. I have had that thought as all of our more outspoken veterans have been jettisoned.

I think perhaps the "cultural shift" is the core component to this entire roster destruction.

You could well be correct on the impact of the cultural shift.

Rivera was the type of coach that could create a strong loyalty among his players.  I think we heard the impact of that, both directly and implied, after he was let go.  That level of loyalty is a good thing, until it is not.

The organization, itself, was also built on loyalty.  That can also be good, but as we saw, can also lead to complacency.  There are times when the best, if not only realistic, option is a clean sweep.  Unfortunately, when that happens it almost always leads to the good being swept out with the bad.

I think we are one more big move away from having a clean sweep.  That move may happen after the draft.

I don't know if it will be successful or not, but I know doing more of the same was going to lead to, well, more of the same and maybe worse.  That dead cap money was going to come due one way or another.

I've begun to believe Tepper was going to move away from Newton no matter what happened. Cam just didn't seem to be "his guy".

Beyond that, Rhule doesn't strike me as being that machiavellian but it's possible.
