YOU Scot an others are assuming based on your emotions. I'm talking about "winning" being a "winner" in OUR division. Don't be silly. That's what's at stake IF he goes there FORGET ABOUT WINNING FOR 8-10 YEARS because he then HATES YOU.

We've seen it. The NFL will LOVE it. At YOUR expense as long as HIS body holds up.

Lol

What we're actually talking about is the reality of the salary cap, plus the reality of Newton's health and how teams are looking at it.

The Bears, a team which was reported to have interest in Cam previously, chose to go with Nick Foles.

That should tell you a lot about how teams view Newton right now.

Is it possible to question Cam's current and future capabilities without being either a racist or a Cam-hater?

Asking for a friend, or actually a whole bunch of folks who don't have an agenda past being Panthers fans.

I said "primary" not "all".

But if you choose to self-identify, knock yourself out.

This is parody right?

Nobody is offering Newton a five to seven year contract right now, definitely not the Saints.

Any offer he gets this year is likely to be a one year "prove it" deal with little to no guarantees.

If a pissed-off Cam gets cut and can only get a one-year prove-it deal somewhere, the Saints would be an incredibly annoying place for him to land.

You're ignoring the politics of the situation.  Cam can't be a Panther if Teddy is.  They've already made their choice and keeping Cam around just muddies it.  Cam was officially done the second Teddy was brought in.  and if it didn't happen then, Cam would be done as soon as the Panthers went to the podium at #6.  The Panthers moved on from Cam, unfortunately they didn't tell anyone else until last week.

Let's not forget too that Cam demanded a new deal as well. Looking at the situation Rhule and Brady had the chance to bring in a guy who understands the offense way more than Cam and is also healthy. Cam just over played his value and now he has to figure it out. Now all the Cam huggers are sad and will wish Bridgewater to do horrible just like they did Allen last year.

Does anyone want to see Cam in New Orleans for the next five years? Any takers?

Let's not make a mistake. No emotion.

Cam has came. Hes over dude. No one is going to sign him to a long deal now especially a team that uses timing on offense. It's ok to be pissed off but don't blame the current staff they didn't run him into the ground.

Hold up...whatever happened to the ATLien Cam weirdo on this board? Has he posted again since the Cam news broke?

It was probably his drivel on this board, not anything Cam posted on social media, that caused the Panthers to sign Bridgewater and decide to move on.

Plenty of guys have had a career revival and maybe Cam can too. I wouldn't mind seeing it if it didn't go against the Panthers.

He is going to have to get his attitude towards money right, in terms of his value and has a lot to prove. If you go on the last two years the odds are against him doing it. Maybe he can.

Couple of things...

The team basically did try to give off the impression that they were going with Newton for the coming season. Some fans bought it. NFL teams didn't though, and they were smart not to do so. It's not like the Panthers are all that great at fooling people, but they certainly gave it a shot..

Behind the scenes, it's pretty obvious now that was never gonna happen.

The team has put it out there that Newton's Instagram video did affect their thinking. I don't really buy it. While it may have annoyed them, I don't actually believe it caused a change of plans. They were clearly ready to move on from him, and if it hadn't been Bridgewater it would have been somebody else (heaven knows there are other options available).

Even with the "commitment" video, signs pointed to Newton being willing to play out the final year of his deal. You could make a pretty good argument that would actually have been better for the Panthers than it would have been for Newton. He was assuming all the risk and the Panthers were guaranteeing him nothing.

But as it turns out, they didn't even want that.

And here we are.

Bottom Line: Doesn't sound like Newton was Joe Brady's guy. Not sure about Rhule, but I'd guess he defers to Brady. And of course there's Tepper, who it was reported has been skeptical of giving Newton another contract pretty much since he got here.

Despite seeming public statements to the contrary, all indications now are that it was just never gonna happen.

I think that the video may have had more impact than most think. Cam came out and said he lied to everyone to his own benefit. He was selfish in those time periods, for reasons we understand, but from a business side that's a very bad thing to do.

Can you give an extension to a franchise player, your qb, the leader of your team, if he's willing to lie to the team and hurt everyone? I'm not so sure.
