Pharoh Cooper (Panthers), one-year, $1.21M ($300K signing bonus, $910K base salary)

He will count less than $1 million on our cap.

He will count 1.21M just like it says.

1. Hurney is trash in the latter rounds, so it doesn't matter until he's gone

2. What I'm saying is instead of relying on them, the FO needs to be better at acquiring picks in the future.

What if we had another 4th or didn't waste it on a trade up last year? Maybe we draft Maxx Crosby instead of Grier and wait until 115 for Grier and a comp 4th for Miller. Maxx Crosby was a private visit so he was on our radar.

Having extra picks is never bad. Especially for someone like Hurney who "has" to get certain people who lately aren't nearly as good as he thinks. Extra comp picks allows for those favorites and also taking the other people we might like. Look at our private visits last year. McCoy, Evans and Crosby were visits. Extra picks help.

And yes, we need to get rid of Hurney. His fans will again point to how good he is at first round picks when he gets Brown or Okudah or Simmons even though we happened to get lucky that pick 7 will likely have one of the studs available.

Maybe not. I don't know the new CBA, but you can pay veterans more than they count on the cap. It was changed so that vets (part of the union) wouldn't be passed over for UDFAs (not part of the union), etc. I do recall seeing it mentioned multiple times before, kind of like a discount cap charge.

He will count 1.2 million - 610k.  Since we have more than 51 players on the roster when 1 guy gets added another one at the low end of the salary scale gets removed.  And he won't make enough to count against the compensation formula

Extra picks are good, yes. However, we can't just rely on comp picks. We have to have a draft similar to the Saints in 2017 if we want to be somewhat competitive on the field this year.

If it is, it will be the first time you can pay any player a dollar without it counting on the cap. Hadn’t heard about that yet.

This is an old article but kind of covers the concepts. Vets making the minimum or maybe around it, basically count like they are on a rookie contract or close to that.

Never heard of it. But it’s been around for awhile evidently because that article is from 2015.

The new CBA raised vet min salaries. Not sure how that affects this. And it really isn’t enough to matter.
