I must be missing something.  How do you trade a late round comp pick (which is for this year) based on performance (next year)?

Late round comp pick is the minimum (let's call it a compensatory 7th) that upgrades to their mid round pick (say a their 5th) if Newton hits certain benchmarks. And both would likely be for 2021.

Doubt anyone wants that 21 million salary when you can wait for him to be released and sign on a 1 year prove it deal for half that

not when there's other teams involved then it's a bidding war. Chargers/Dolphins/Patriots/Skins

shouldnt be signing any high dollar players right now.  this virus is gonna cancel football this year.  no sense in paying players to sit at home and play Phase 10

currently, no players are getting paid. the league year would be put on hiatus so the contracts would just pick up where they left off

Rhule went 2-10 his first year at Temple. He went 1-11 his first year at Baylor.

The suck is coming. It's part of "the process".

College is different from the pros. College coaches have to recruit talent and have to build the program. There is a huge disparity between the Alabama's and the Temples or Baylors in terms of resources and infrastructure.  In the pros you have more equitable talent and the salary cap means that one team can't get all the good players like college teams can.  Coaching matters more in the pros. In college there are lots of other factors. They may be good or bad for us.

We have one DT on the roster and he's on the wrong side of 30 and coming off of a season ending injury. We have mediocre veteran QB. We have a completely unproven OL. We lost our best CB. We lost our our best pass rusher.

This roster is a trainwreck. That's just reality.

That’s not tanking.  You don’t coach different. You don’t play different. You set your team up with an eye on the future. Do you actually believe NFL coaches and players are actively “throwing” games? That’s what you are describing. Everyone needs to give up this false narrative.

That is my point. Teams in the NFL don't tank on purpose for draft picks. And good teams try and pick the best players they can for what they want to accomplish. Given you get limited draft picks and  can't really count on anything lower than a third to be more than depth until he is down the road, you have to have veterans to back them up and start. Which is exactly what Hurney is attempting to do.

You point out some obvious holes. But I think we aren't done yet and we still have the draft. Am I concerned about the defense? Absolutely. But I think the offense will be better.
