The team's side of the story (per Kyle Bailey)

So it seems if Cam would have just stfu this offseason and worked his ass off to getting back on the field in a Panthers uniform, this would likely not have happened.

In the last 4-5 seasons, It became apparent that football was not his first priority. It’s a shame, I really enjoyed having him as a part of the team.

Entertainer and Icon was his priority! Trying to build his brand!

You guys are mad over a tweet? Like really? That’s what made all the difference? Holy poo. Some of you guys must have had it hella easy in life.

Who gives a fug.

Both Can and Panthers did what they had to do. Neither did the wrong thing, period. Cam didn’t take the risk on himself why should he expect the Panthers too? He did what he did in his best interest and so did the Panthers, let it go, it’s fuging business. Your tender butts surely can handle a meaningless, insignificant tweet. Oh but let me guess...it MeAns So muCh1! *tear* grow up.

As for signing Bridgewater...well I’m not sure what that means...smells like mediocrity but who knows.

In thread after thread, you talk about how easy everyone else has had it, and continually imply that you're some sort of extreme hard luck case, as opposed to all the snowflakes of the world. (Don't make me put together an anthology - you know it's your M.O.)

Can you specify exactly what was so difficult about your background? And if you're not willing to do so, can you shut up about it?

People can have whatever opinion on him they choose, but that was our only MVP in franchise history. How fans treat those that brought relevancy to their team says everything about their values.

Yet fans like this will still turn around and demand a winning team. No one owes you anything.

I always knew it was going to be hard to keep Cam. The way it shook down and how the team handles business is pathetic. The fact they believe they can compete this year after failing with better pieces the last two years is funny and horrifying. Not shocking unfortunately. 2010 incoming. We have a jag QB but the D is gutted.

Did we have better pieces? We had familiar names, but our D couldn’t stop a person on offense and our offense couldn’t bail them out.

I think it’s time, perfect time to blow it all up. Cam got almost a decade, he had his shot.

We did on defense. Bradbury, Luke, Irvin, Addision and McCoy. Hell even Reid is better than the practice squader that will be playing safety next to Boston. Add in that guys like Burns will be playing out of position switching back to 4-3.

I never had a problem with a rebuild, this one so far is not very promissing and if they think they are competing and not rebuilding then they aren't blowing it up unfortunatly, at least not intentionally. This year's D is looking much worse than last years. Last year was a scheme failure. This year is a team building failure.

My opinion?

This is damage control after botching just about everything this entire offseason.

Tepper is probably starting to see just how fractured the football side of the operation is, and has absolutely no idea how to fix it, and doesn't employ anyone that does either.

We REALLY need a good football guy in Charlotte right now, and instead we have the 3 Amigos.

No. The team never offered him an extension in any form, and they weren't going to.

If Cam wanted to be here he needed to prove it. You know, there is a lot of shock and awe in regards to the team moving on from Cam. I'm petrified myself. It was never going to be easy. But I get what the team what the team was thinking in regards to extension.  I understand that a player deserves to get full compensation when dealing with an injury. It's not a good look though if you shoot a video smoking cigars and drinking. Cam got paid well to rehab while simultaneously having an opportunity to commit more time to his other business interests.  He didnt market himself well during his absence.  I completely understand why the team took the stance they did. Cam didnt deserve an extension. He deserved to have to prove his worth for a season before earning the commitment he was seeking. The Panthers were committed. They gave him two years to heal. The Panthers owed Cam nothing. Cam owed the Panthers nothing...but Cam needed to bite the bullet to be the qb. He wasnt willing too and that's that.

they were a priority, sure.  that's the way for a modern megastar.

but a priority beyond his health, recovery, and on-the-field preparedness?  never saw evidence of that.

personally, I did not like everything Cam did.  but you know what?  I don't let that influence my like of him as a Panther, because he gave the team his all, every time I saw him on the field.

The hate for the guy is unreal, and sad.

everything I've read is that Cam was *wanted* an extension, but was willing to play out this year here without one.  it is just that he *still* isn't recovered, and the team needed to move on securing a QB now because he is still a risk.  but maybe I am wrong.  Has been hard to track all this.

I think if he was willing to do that then certainly it would change the dynamic. His "little bit of commitment"  video sort of forces me to assume that it wasnt true, otherwise I think he would have said that.

some of the team insiders/Cam insiders have said he was willing to play out a 1 year deal when the Panthers wouldn't budge on an extension.  But it is possible that the video pushed them over the edge.  Not sure.  We probably will never know.

    • Entering year three, and there are reasons I would look into this more before offering a fourth or fifth. He was drafted in round 2 in 2023.  His rookie season, he played 14 games and was targeted 40 times.  Targeted 3 times a game, basically.  He caught 27 (67.5%).  A TE target/catch percentage should be higher than a WR--70-75% is considered good.  In 11 games this season, he was targeted 32 times and caught 21.  Again, about 3 targets per game, with a target catch percentage of 66%. They decided to draft a TE after his rookie season. This means they did not see him as a #1 TE. He has not been very healthy (9 missed games in 2 seasons--26%). Could he be better with a better QB?  Probably.  Having said all that, he is an excellent blocking TE.  I would trade a 6th for him, but only if I knew Thomas and Tremble were not coming back.
    • 4th, 5th or later for him all day. Get it done ASAP.
    • the personal problems is something that would have to be checked out, but I'd do it.  That's how we got Greg Olsen.  He was a first round pick and we traded a 3rd for him a couple of years later.  He became our best TE ever
