The team's side of the story (per Kyle Bailey)

All of this Hurney talk about building a team differently than Tepper or Rhule want is ridiculous and not even worthy of the huddle. Hurney is doing what he is being told by his bosses which is Rhule and Tepper. He wouldn't be dumping guys he just signed or getting rid of players he loves and drafted unless he was told to do it. That is what GMs do. Get the players the coaches and owners want.

Couple of quick notes here...

The team reached out to Bailey for this, not the other way around. They clearly wanted to get their side of the story out there.

As to Bailey, a few people accused him of being a mouthpiece for the team. He vehemently denies these accusations, stating that while he'll accurately tell us what the team says, that doesn't mean he believes it.

Again, up to you how but you believe these things...

The only thing I find incredible about this whole thing is Hurney believing, yet again, that we are close to competing this year.  They need to drug test that puppy.

Now that we released Reid, we should have a surplus.

One other relevant point...

As far as the state of the team, while some people inside the building believe that the team needs to just go ahead and gut the roster and start the full rebuild, Marty Hurney believes the team can be built to be competitive this year.

(shocking, I know)

Stranger things have happened. No one thought we had rebuilt very much at the beginning of 2003, but they caught lightning in a bottle. 2015 looked like a wash after Benjamin blew his knee out in training camp and we had no offensive line to speak of.

It could happen.

When was your last drug test?

- The Panthers, at that point, decided the time had come to go ahead and move on from Newton. They told his people (primarily agent Bus Cook) that they were trading him. Cook asked for permission to control the trade negotiations and the team agreed.  The team then tweeted that news out.

Read your post and was thinking. How does the timeline for this look like.

25 February was the date when Cam Newton postad the commitment video.

17 Mars the team published that Cam can seek trade options.

Hmm.. "at that point".. "told his people"...

Im not a big Cam guy so it doesn't bother me if he is gone. But I can understand why he is not happy, especially regarding the wording the team used when they already had the replacement guy lined up and made it seem like he bailed on the team.

Not my info, but yeah...

I'd say there's a gap between when the video came out, when the decision was made, when the discussions happened and when it was announced. When it's all told as one story of course, you lose the sense of timing.

I cannot wrap my head around what Tepper sees in Hurney. I can’t believe we missed out on quite a few talented candidates in favor of keeping him.

I already think he’s off to a bad start for our rebuild. Canceling out our comp picks, killing any leverage we had in trading Cam (Tepper included), signing Teddy (probably because of Brady) to most likely keep us out of a top pick to grab a top flight QB next season.

It looks absolutely dreadful right now. I pray he is not the GM when his contract is up after the draft.

I know, sorry if it seemed like that. I applaud your effort to bring interesting topics and information to this forum.

My take is the Panthers had plenty of time to get the wording straight and they bungled it. So far, not impressed with how the organization handles things in this rebuild.
