The team's side of the story (per Kyle Bailey)

Guys, Rhule has no real power. Marty and Tepper are calling the shots.

Only person calling the shots is Tepper. Marty has never been anything more than a puppet for JR and Tepper. The reason JR brought Marty back after firing Gettleman was because JR couldn’t control Gettleman.

That is why Tepper gave Ron and Marty another shot after shitting the bed. He probably told them if you want to keep your job your going to do things my way. Marty bent over and Ron is a stubborn fug who clearly butted heads with Tepper which is why he got fired.

We can absolutely be better offensively than LY with the personnel we have now...we just need one more move to replace paradis

but we may be the worst defense in nfl history

Well, we’ve got no LG or RG yet and Olsen is gone. I’m not sold on Teddy, but I agree that we could be better on offense. Defense could be epically bad. It’s all on the coaches and, wait for it, our round 2-4 picks. If Marty is Marty then the D could be an utter catastrophe. If Rhule and Brady help out maybe we don’t end up with 1st rounder (should be really easy at 7) and backups.

One other relevant point...

As far as the state of the team, while some people inside the building believe that the team needs to just go ahead and gut the roster and start the full rebuild, Marty Hurney believes the team can be built to be competitive this year.

(shocking, I know)

Source?

Honestly, offering him an extension was not worth the risk.  I was hoping he would be fine with playing out the contract in a "prove I can still play healthy" type of year.  I think Cam has overstated his value and I am not sure any team will be willing to sign him for more than a 1 year deal, unless he can pass a physical and do a workout to prove he can play.

During the first segments of Kyle Bailey's radio show today, he recounted a conversation he had with someone within the Panthers organization, basically giving "their side of the story" as far as the Newton fiasco.

Here's a summary of what he said, keeping in mind this is from a Panthers source:

- The "little commitment" video was exactly what it sounded like, that he wanted an extension. The team was absolutely unwilling to do so and may not have been all that happy about the video itself.

- The Panthers, at that point, decided the time had come to go ahead and move on from Newton. They told his people (primarily agent Bus Cook) that they were trading him. Cook asked for permission to control the trade negotiations and the team agreed.  The team then tweeted that news out.

- After seeing the tweet, Newton got angry because he felt the team made it sound like he wanted out. He reacted accordingly with his Instagram post. The team doesn't believe they did anything wrong with their tweet given that his people had requested to control the process.

- Matt Rhule's comments through the whole offseason discussion were deliberately measured. He expressed the desire to coach Newton but allowed for the fact that he might not get to. Ultimately, he'd support whatever quarterback the team settled on.

- The team didn't expect to get Teddy Bridgewater for what they were offering. Word is that the Patriots also wanted Bridgewater and the Bucs would have as well if not for the interest from Tom Brady.

- Once Bridgewater was on board, the team felt safe to just let it be known that they were moving on. With what's happened since, the team now believes there is no trade market for Newton. He'll probably be released.

- David Tepper still plans to bring Newton back and induct him into the team's Ring of Honor at some point.

So here we are...

This is the team's side of things. Whether or not you choose to believe what they're saying is, of course, up to you.

Makes sense. It doesn’t surprise me the team wasn’t happy with his video tantrum.

Excuse me Mr Hurney, exactly how many competitive teams have you built?

Quite a few. 2003, 2005, 2008.

Even the 2013 and 2015 teams were stocked with a number of Hurney picks.  The 2018 team was very competitive until Newton went down. We were rolling at 6-2.

Lol. Quite a resume.

All the double talk was just unnecessary. Any chance the team had in getting real value out of Newton went out the window with the botched handling of this breakup. Was it all the FO's fault? No. But did they make it worse? Seems that way.

Where do you go from here? Well you definitely stop trying to bullshit your own fans before you've proven anything of significance, that's for sure. Everyone is on the clock now, can't unring that bell.

So they didn’t like the commitment video from Cam but they use it as the centerpiece of their reality show and set Rhule up to look like he’s responding to it. All the while his response is well crafted bullshit and according to this source the team said right then they’d trade him yet still let Rhule make those statements and play up the keeping Cam facade.

Great

Compared to New England. Perhaps not but compared to the Browns, Tampa, and a number of others, it is pretty good.

Well, that’s what I aspire to...just pretty good compared to other dumpster fires.
