Observation: Panthers have a plan, you’re just not gonna like it

So why trade Trai Turner for a one year rental at LT then if you are trying to compete 2 years from now? I don’t mind the trade but if you are competing two years from now is much rather have a draft pick. Too many moves show retooling while all others say rebuild.

Trai contract was still big next year.. Now you have no attachment to Okung next offseason.. And probably were not getting any picks offered..

I'm okay with waiting until 2022 to address the QB position long-term.

I know it's a highlight reel but damn is his ball placement good.

Not gonna get into any regional fracases but I really like what I've seen of this kid.

I think the plan is to get a QB in the draft this year, and if one we like doesn’t fall to us this year we tank for Lawrence next year.

it’s very risky imo, plan is to develop said QB to where they are hitting their stride when Tampa and New Orleans and possibly Atlanta are going to be starting their next rebuilds. All 3 of their QB’s are aging on the end of their careers.

I don't see that.. I think Bridgewater is on a 1 year prove it deal.. And the QB draft next year is the target..

His deep ball accuracy is unreal. Where I want to see him improve next season is in the redzone. He struggled at times when the field shrank. I just don't think he trusted what he was seeing sometimes. Pretty typical of even a really talented true freshman.

So you cut players from a team with fat contracts that did not win for younger players with smaller contracts that may not win but may get a few that can prove out .  To me that is a win win . Lets see our our new coaches prove out before getting too bent out of shape .

We signed those younger players too soon. They'll negate our comp picks. I would've been okay with it if they were legit proven NFL players, but they're pretty much all wild cards. I'm fine with negating comp picks to add legit proven players, but it seems dumb to me to negate comp picks to sign wild cards.

Its more of a 2 year deal.

$10m of his base salary in 2021is guaranteed.

Draft a QB next year and let him sit on the bench for a year is more likely, which isn't the worst idea.

It's a highlight reel. You would need to see some full games to see why he had a relatively low completion percentage. The talent is there, without question. He just needs a couple of more seasons of polish.

With how much our cap gets better the next 2 years... Jmo

1. If Bridgewater comes out on fire and plays great while we still lose because the team still sucks.. You have a top pick (asset to get more picks) and cap money to truly build around Bridgewater.. Probably start competing sooner..

2. If Bridgewater continues to be the game manager he has always been.. He becomes a asset for trade.. We still have a top 5 pick and cap money to build around that kid.. Probably start winning the year after that...

3. Bridgewater sucks .. We draft a QB 2021 and cut Bridgewater in 2022 after he is unseated by the new Franchise QB....  Still have alot cap money to build around that new Qb the next 2 years..

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
