Canes relationship

Two years ago, the canes dumped what everyone thought was their best scorer in jeff skinner right before the season started. Team hadnt sniffed the playoffs in ten years. That team looked like the Checkers on paper. Fast forward to a conference championship appearance and getting screwed out of a cup. Roddy was able to get the most out of his guys when the team seemed to be tanking to move. Kind of the same thing is happening here. Although the dead cap space releases are baffling

Canes have done an amazing job building and really are setup to be a top 5-10 team for atleast a decade to come. Great drafting in later rounds and some really amazing contracts. Also got lucky and won lottery to get Svechnikov 2nd overall.

Not sure Panthers have done any of that. Could start next year by getting Lawrence or Fields like the Canes getting Svechnikov, but we gotta tank/suck to do that. Can’t get lucky in a draft lottery like the NHL.

We were before we brought Hurney back.

We were much better with DG but he still had some serious miscues, both in the draft and contract wise... Kalil, Benjamin, Funchess, Butler, KK contract, etc.

Ya for sure but overall he had a well oiled machine.

Hurney for the past two years has been literally just 1 season plug and playing random parts. You saw where that got us and he’s doing it again. The difference this season is there is no machine to build around.

Sidenote: I’m just happy the canes get to rest up and get over some of those injuries. Ugh.

Big changes bring uncertainty.

But in the NFL, things can turn around quickly. Lots of new players and coaches means new dynamics. With all the moving parts, you don't really know what you're going to get until you see some on-field action.

We could surprise early - sure. Or we could struggle mightily. That's the excitement of the unknown. (for me, at least)

The difference is the Canes have one hell of a prospect system. Had great cap space, and awesome draft capital.

They are without a doubt one of the smartest run small market organizations in sports since the ownership/gm/coaching change.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
