Coaching only goes so far in college.

Clemson alum and legacy saying this, Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban are crap coaches and only win because they out talent everyone else.

It's like putting NFL first round picks against drafted college players.

A great comparison. Now I want to make an NFL All Time 1st round team vs an All Time rest of the league team to kill time

That was supposed to say undrafted lol. Autocorrect

I figured it would be more like first two rounds. Still, I think first two rounds is pretty accurate. Lots of small schools still manage to get big talent and plenty of schools aren’t really considered small but never reach ranked status.

Chip’s first 2 seasons were each 10-6. He lost his players’ confidence in year 3 with talks of racism and him distancing himself from his players. That’s when everything fell apart and he got fired. The Niners gave him a go and it was worse. I doubt Rhule is going to have a hard time connecting with his players. If you compare him to Chip, he wasn’t the worst coach, just didn’t have the personality for the NFL (the whole talks of racism didn’t help and is disturbing one way or another).

I don't think we forced Luke to retire. I think that was his decision. He's 27. If he wanted to keep playing and didn't want to be here he could've forced his way out. Luke retired due to medical concerns.

But yeah, so far this is all looking very Chip Kelly-ish in the early going. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

I do think at some level his decision was also made easier because of the dramatic turnover. If you are mulling retirement, why stick around for a "5 year rebuild?"

I mean all the experienced players on this team have been leaving in droves since Rhule was hired. I have a hard time believing he is going to be able to command respect in the locker room short term. Maybe long term. He’s only ever coached kids before and his style was “preachy” to say the least.

Ya, if Ron was still around and we were making a push for the SB this year I’d say he’d still be here at least through the end of his contract.

I'm not sure about Dabo, but Nick Saban is definitely a good coach and he's got a track record to prove it.  I was at Michigan State when Saban was there, and I watched him beat Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame with inferior talent to those schools.  Obviously things get alot easier for him once he gets a head of steam going, but he doesn't HAVE to have a loaded roster to win.  His former players talk glowingly of how good of a coach he really is, and how so much of what other players are starting to "learn" in the NFL...Nick had already taught them back in college.

And you could see on the field how frustrated he was by the end of the season. He was lashing out at teammates.
