It's not throwing away money any more than signing Teddy Bridgewater is. That money will be long off the cap by the time we are "turned around." That's why I didn't have an issue with keeping Cam this offseason. Even though the cap was tight, his money disappeared next year anyway.

And if it isn’t spent you have another 68M on the books for 2022. Think that would make a difference. What did you ultimately get for the extra 60+M you spent on those players over cheaper options?

This is probably ideal. Look at what the Dolphins did this past year. They knew they'd be poo and traded away their dudes. The crazy thing is that they tanked and should still get the guy they originally wanted in Tua.

Phins looked like the worst team in NFL history after 2 weeks, then they figured some things out. Funny part of that was, the panthers had the worst defense if you dont factor in weeks 1-2. Future is unknown, but the guessing is MUCH better than past years. Do the very best you can and once youre out of the playoff race, fire up the tank! The smartest thing to do is play the young players and lose.

That's fine in theory but you are required to spend it at some point. Haven't seen the new CBA but the old one required you spend 89% of it over a 3 or 4 year period(if I am not mistaken). So having a boatload of cash available for the next two seasons would just mean we would have to spend like maniacs pretty soon, which is probably not a great idea either.

IF that is still the case, then having some bigger contracts to soak up cap is not a bad idea while we are rebuilding. The rest of the roster is pretty fuging cheap.

That’s a good point. I’ve never read up on that aspect because I never thought I would see it come into play for anyone.

I'm new so I can't create a thread yet to really lay it all out, but most of you have a really distant and inaccurate impression of Teddy Bridgewater.  You all sound a lot like Saints fans a year ago who groaned at the Teddy signing, and months later were rocking the Superdome chanting "Teddy!  Teddy!".  Point being in time you will see why so many fans got won over.  Teddy Bridgewater is legit and Joe Brady wouldn't have brought him over from New Orleans if he was average.
