As bad as the Panthers have handled the situation with Cam, I’ll be happy for any compensation at this point. We really dropped the ball on PR with this.

I don’t see them handling it badly. And neither did Cam. Clearly he wanted and extension. And I think the Panthers offered a 2-3 year around 20-25m for him. It’s a good offer considering his cirumcstances. But he was probably looking for closer to 30m and 5 years. Which is in his best interest. Of course this is just speculation on my part but I’m pretty sure when Cam said the Panthers ‘are forcing him to move on’ that meant ‘weren’t willing to pay him’. Both sides did what was best for them.

If cam really wanted to stay he could have, but I don’t think I’d be too happy giving out what he probably wanted seeing as he’s been through all his surgeries and the Panthers are already out two seasons without their starting QB.

Other teams don’t want to take the gamble either, there’s is no doubt Cam was shopped around. I think someone will be more willing to take the risk than the Panthers but it’s not like we could’ve traded him for high picks. What else could the FO have done?

Given how badly the team has bungled things, at this point if we get a ham sandwich for him it's a win.

That actually sounds kind of nice. As long as it's nice, sliced ham. Or what about one of those ham sandwiches you have the day after thanksgiving? I'd take that deal right now!

First team that offers a 2nd gets him.  Its a fairly cheap 1-year rental of a starting QB with a potential comp pick at the end.  If they wait until he is released, they may have to pay for 3-4 years and a lot more money.

We're not exactly in a position to expect a bidding war.

I’d bet my left nut Cam isn’t going anywhere that doesn’t offer him an extension as part of the deal. If he was willing to play on a 1 year deal it would have been here.

My problem is if you've got a coach, you let him and the GM make football decisions. Teppers hubris is his weakness, he needs to crunch numbers somewhere.

I thought Greg Hardy should have been coaches decision, Ron publicly came out for retaining the star DE. Why? FOOTBALL.

Let the coach figure out winning.

Who is to say Rhule didn’t have input on this decision? It would be hard to imagine a new coach wants to hand Cam an extension and take a huge gamble to start his career. If it doesn’t work out and he’s stuck with Cam for 5 years at 30m that’s going to really limit the team he can build.

Your contract talk is speculation. He was willing to play this season out. He expected to be the starter and was prepping to lead the team through the rebuild. Where the team screwed up is by leading him on that he would be the starter, then the press conference by Rhule a couple weeks back. Cam was blindsided and then the team tried to play it off like he wanted a trade. Almost everyone agrees the Panthers screwed up how they handled things. They sign Teddy and announce minutes later that Cam is gone and he was upset because everything that Rhule and Tepper said to him in the many meetings they had were the complete opposite of what went down.

Latest indications were that he was.

The team? Not so much.

Yea again it’s just my speculation. If that were the case, I can agree it was a poor move by the FO.

I think in the next few weeks we will get all the details.
