REPORT: Panthers have discussed Cam Newton with the Bears

can we not make a trade pending the passing of the physical, then cut him when he does not pass the physical?  Are there not rules about cutting a player getting a physical?  Would he not be waived first?

A crappy team needs a stopgap QB. That is pretty much what we are looking at with Bridgewater.  No complaints on him. It fits. Kind of surprised he took the job though.

I think Cam and his agent manipulated this whole thing with the going to IR and surgery schedule last year trying to force the Panthers' hand. Screwed up our chance to get anything for him.

He may come back and be really good, but you can't take that shot after what he has given us the last two years.

I've maintained all along that ultimately the team would outright release Cam but hoped it would be under different circumstances.  They should have handled this totally different than how it's gone down so far.  They should be planning a parade in Charlotte to celebrate Newton's time here.  Instead we will have to read about the ugly details of how he was released unceremoniously by our brain trust.

First team that offers a 2nd gets him.  Its a fairly cheap 1-year rental of a starting QB with a potential comp pick at the end.  If they wait until he is released, they may have to pay for 3-4 years and a lot more money.

The thing about the Patriots is this--you won't hear much if anything at all.  Then they swoop in at the last second and deal.  They have a ton of comp pics--little cap room--so we shall see--they could backload a 4-year contract and guarantee very little. I still say the Chargers will make an offer.

I honestly hope this team gets a low ball offer just because of the BS they did to him. I'm not about to forget it a day later. 6th, 7th rounder. Juuuuuuust to piss some of this weird ass fan base off.

I’m sure we will hear about it as soon as s I goes down, but with Covid-19 who knows when it will be official. This entire situation makes it difficult for teams right now to check out injured players. If we get offered anything decent at all we have to take it. I expected a full cut after yesterday’s fiasco.

Given how badly the team has bungled things, at this point if we get a ham sandwich for him it's a win.
