Comp pick update

Whenever Bruce Irvin's contract finally comes to light, if lucrative enough, I think we may get a 7th for him.  This FA market was very pricey, so I think it would have to be over $4 million annually.  Possible? Yes. Likely? No.  Even then, just for a 7th.

OTC now showing we are only getting a 7th.  Maybe another 7 for Irvin.

His contract is only $2.25 million and while we have more lost than gained, it's too small to qualify as one of the top 32 FA deals.  Last check $3 million was the last qualifying (32nd) contract amount.

So how much better are those players that we signed early than what we could sign now with the recent releases.

Even if those guys we sign are better, are they good enough to get us in the playoffs?

Crazy we won’t get one comp pick with all the free agents we had. The part the stings the most is losing a 3rd for Bradberry while spotting NO a 3rd for Teddy in a year we shouldn’t be trying to compete.

I think fans care a whole lot more about comp picks than front offices. If they are adding proven veterans then I don't think they care about extra mid to late round picks

Ravens, Cowboys, Packers, Patriots, Rams would say otherwise.

According to this article in 2019 they have received the most all-time.

I would guess the Ravens, Pats and Packers have some of the best win/loss ratios of that time.  Not sure where the Rams and Cowboys rank.

Saints, Browns, Jets at the bottom.

Amazing how easy it is to see that comp picks are a good thing to have. People complain about interior OL and yet it’s somehow a waste to have an extra 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Those are 4 picks that could easily help us bolster the OL by taking the best G or C at every pick. Let’s act like that wouldn’t help, especially since we have only 1 starting OL under contract after 2020 and that’s Paradis for 1 year and he’s likely to get released unless he reverts to a top center.

Does make me wonder, would we better off with Andy Dalton, a comp 3rd and an extra $15 million or so, or Teddy Bridgewater? I guess that Joe Brady connection was really meaningful.

Yes. Personally, I think we would have been better off with 4 comp picks, $90M in cap to rollover (Teddy, Anderson, Short) and starting Grier to Clausen us into Lawrence. Extend Moton, Moore and maybe Samuel based on this year. Overdraft OL in 2021 as well as maybe a TE and WR. We’d have a high 2nd, high 3rd, late 3rd, high 4th, low 4th, and 5 more. That would give you a TE, WR and 3 OL and then 5 more 5th+ flyers.

I agree about "punting" this season, like old foxy said "its not a bad play". Then GO HARD in 2021, but here we are. They wanted to make a run for whatever reasons. I did see players comment on going to the Dolphins that them winning games mattered to them. I dont believe it, they just had the most money and an army of draft picks. This season if it happens will be very different and who knows if the panthers can win or not. Now playing the saints at the dome doesnt require snap count adjustments. Many teams and players feed off the crowds and they will not be included this year. Travel will be different along with million other things.

That’s the thing. It’s not like we got any proven veterans to justify the comp picks we’re missing out on. Those comp picks bring value in trades. And like many have stated in this thread, could have built the interior of our OL.

I truly believe it is ego.

Coaches believe they can out coach other coaches.

GMs believe they can out GM other GMs.

People get impatient and start to talk themselves into the idea that maybe we aren't that bad, or we can quickly turn it around.
