Somebody clue me in...who was the last comp pick that amounted to anything for the Panthers?  Don't say Will Grier.

That's the whole point!  We squander our comp picks by signing FAs, typically JAGS we can sign after the comp pick penalty is over.  Take the Patriots this year, I'm pretty sure they have 12 picks.  Wanna bet of those extra 5 picks they will develop 2-3 of them into at least a depth/rotational players?  You think Belichick scoffs at comps picks?  I realize we have Hurney, but sh!t, with more picks the odds of the blind squirrel finding a nut at least increases.

My point is that comp picks are for losers.  Sign a FA if you like him and to hell with comp picks

You probably have NFL tape on a FA.  Comp picks rarely hit especially here.

Solid argument. In the year of a total rebuild we sign a bunch JAG FAs.  Makes total sense.  Maybe Hurney finally understands his weaknesses.

Tom Brady was a comp pick. Not that it matters because more picks give you more shots. Maybe the guy you take next does well or you trade up.

Good point, also more trade up ammunition if desired.  Hell, most years we struggle to have just our standard 7 picks, one in each round.  Usually we piss one or more of those away too.

We've done so well building through FA in the past, what could go wrong? (Hint: 2019)

This.  There was an article a year ago of how NE used their comp pick in trades they completed with other teams.  It was the added value that helped them get great players by throwing in a lottery late round comp pick.  But the teams would bite constantly.

Correct.  He was cut by the Rams last Dec.  He doesn’t count.

Did the Cardinals cut him late in the year or something?  I could have sworn he was on their squad last year and not the the Rams.

Panthers signed WR Pharoh Cooper to a one year contract.

Cooper earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2017 as a returner with the Rams before getting his most work yet as a receiver with the Cardinals in 2019. Overall, Cooper caught 25-of-33 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown as a backup WR in the Cardinals' four-WR heavy offense. He'll likely work as the Panthers' No. 4 WR behind D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel and probably Seth Roberts.
