Jourdan Rodrigue on Cam

She actually makes a lot of sense.

With the signing of Bridgewater and the statement that Newton has been "granted permission" to seek a trade, the Panthers have made it clear they're moving on from him.  Teams don't usually give up something for a guy they know is going to be let go anyway. At the very least, you cut your own throat by giving up what leverage you might have had.

Will Brinson said on WFNZ today that he believes Newton will ultimately be released, though he did speculate that maybe a team like the Chargers could offer a conditional fifth/fourth rounder.

Another team will get involved and will not want to risk him being released. We probably won't get much but we will get something for him

Perhaps, but as Brinson pointed out, teams are going to want to do a physical on him and that's... complicated right now.

Either way, the Panthers have handled this stupidly.

This is coming from someone who threw CAM under the bus just to pad her resume, [reporters should report news, not make themselves the news]. Should have never made a mountain of of that mole hill. IMO, What she says today will always be too little, too late.

Cam would call reporters out in the middle of practices and chastise them

Not even a full 24 hours, and already letting out the daggers. It's almost like you've been waiting for this opportunity.

Another article well worth a read from Josh Klein on The Riot Report: Newton was blindsided by team announcement

Quote

While rumors and conjecture have been swirling for months about the future of Cam Newton with the Carolina Panthers, when the story broke Tuesday morning that the Panthers had given permission to the franchise quarterback to seek a trade, it may have taken some Panthers fans by surprise.

No one was more surprised than Newton himself.

A source close to Newton told The Riot Report that the 2015 NFL MVP was “completely blindsided” by the news and had to be consoled by those close to him – from what Newton understood, the team was waiting for him to get back to 100% from a December Lisfranc procedure and that the plan was for him to be ‘the guy’ to lead the new era of the Carolina Panthers under new head coach Matt Rhule.

That was obviously not the case.
