The #Panthers are finalizing a deal with QB Teddy Bridgewater

Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater, formerly of the Vikings and Saints, to a three-year, $63 million contract.

Bridgewater didn't receive franchise quarterback money, but it's more than enough dough to kiss Cam Newton goodbye in Carolina. It's a peculiar investment for the Panthers as they sway between a full-on tank job and attempting to compete for a wild card spot in the NFC. When the owner, head coach, and general manager aren't all aiming for the same window to win, things can get ugly. Hopefully that doesn't happen here. For Teddy himself, this is a decent fit as his game-managing qualities pair nicely with underneath targets Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore. He'll be a low-end QB2 option in fantasy drafts this summer.

All that said, to the idiots who are hoarding formula and baby wipes... Screw you! Infants need that formula sometimes to live off on until the milk comes in. Stores really need to start limiting how much people buy.

Teddy Bridgewater: Bridge or building block for the Carolina Panthers?

Teddy Bridgewater has finally worked his way back to being a starting NFL quarterback, signing a three-year deal in free agency with the Carolina Panthers.

As I wrote recently at PFF, Bridgewater showed during his brief stint starting in 2019 that he can be a viable starting quarterback again. He was able to shake off the hyper-conservative play that had been a feature of whatever glimpses we had seen from him since his devastating knee injury and prove that he still had a higher level of aggressive play in his game.

What is really interesting is choosing Carolina as his destination, because the Panthers are a team in the midst of a full rebuild. The Panthers have a completely new coaching staff going to work in 2020.

The better example for that scenario is the Broncos and Jay Cutler.

Touché, Scot. However his 2004 season was definitely the coming out party as to what they had and the Chargers failed to recognize it.

This is just an fyi.  I don't know if Bridgewater will count against the comp pick formula for 2021.  He had a voided year for 2020 by New Orleans.  It's not the same as a declined option but I don't know if how the formula accounts for that.

Teddy Bridgewater's three-year, $63 million deal with the #Panthers includes $33M fully guaranteed at signing. He gets $24M in Year 1, including a $15M signing bonus. A strong commitment to a player who last was a full-time starter in 2015.

I would guess about $14M on the cap this year based on the parameters in the post above yours.

He gets $24M in Year 1 including the entire signing bonus of $15M. Divide the signing bonus by 3 (since its prorated across 3 years) and only 1/3rd of it counts toward this year’s cap ($5M) so the other $10M of that $24M doesn’t count against the cap this year leaving $14M.

Thats just an estimate based on what was posted though, no idea about any escalators or incentives, ect.

Breakdown of Teddy Bridgewater contract with the Panthers is effectively two years and 40 million. That's what the guarantees essentially cover. They own his rights for a third season at another 20 million but have significant wiggle room should they want to flip him via trade
