A failure to trade Christian McCaffrey will cost us Trevor or Fields

We've all seen what McCaffrey can do, he can break games open, and will win even the worst team in the NFL to a couple of wins.

You don't think if CMC was on the Bengals last year they eke out 2 extra wins?  There will be a few 200 yard CMC games that we unfortunately win if we don't trade him.

On the other hand, by the time Lawrence is in his 2nd season, CMC will be an old and broken down running back on a maximum salary.

So there's no reason to hang on to CMC.  He costs us draft position this year, and won't be in his prime by the time our new QB is ready.

The only reason to keep him at this point would be to sell tickets and merch.  So this is a test of how bad Tepper wants to win versus make money.

Credibility, you have none.

Not only are we paying a running back 64 million

We're paying him 64 million dollars to prevent us from finding a franchise quarterback in next year's draft

One of the worst moves in franchise history

If you liked this extension, enjoy watching your perpetually 5-11 or 6-10 Panthers for the next half decade.

Once again... Julio Jones averages 22 million a year is 31 years old, and had 1000 less yards and 13 less touchdowns than Mccaffrey did last season. He is a WEAPON, not just a RB. His 64 million will never be the cause of us being a 5-11 team for a decade. That is insane.

What's the relevancy to this thread

The Falcons have Matt Ryan and don't need to draft a franchise qb in 2021

We just lost 8 in a row with him as the best RB in football.  So we signed Teddy, Anderson and a few others...not to mention have like no defense.  Again--what is this anxiety being perpetuated about us somehow being mediocre in a powerhouse division and stacked NFC?

Ok, then why pay him 20 million a year?

There not, it's really a 6 year deal worth 75 million. His bonuses and guarantees will hit this year through year 2 of the new deal. If he's fallen off rb cliff, then he would be an easy cut in year 3 of the new deal most likely.

OP makes an excellent point but I don't think he went far enough. Just trading McCaffrey is probably not enough. We should go to the nearest Buffalo Wild Wings and find 53 volunteers to fill out the entire roster. Then after we go 0-16 and get outscored 700-3 for the season, we get to pick Trevor Lawrence and then it's super bowl baby!
