Panthers To Allow Cam Newton To Seek Trade

I would imagine some team that needs a QB will take a flyer on Cam. They’ll try to catch lightning in a bottle for one year. However they probably won’t give a long contract and run Cam into the ground just to win now. I bet he’ll run a TON until literally broken for a team that doesn’t really care about his health.

I hate I can't edit, but imagine going into camp with Cam and Bridgewater.

Imagining it is the only way you're gonna see it cause that ain't happenin'

There's no way in hell a team is going into a season with 40 million of their salary cap tied up in two quarterbacks.

Unless someone comes in with some kind of trade offer, and probably soon, Newton is being cut. Any idea of keeping him at this point is pure fantasy.

So is thinking that Newton would want to be here after everything that's happened.

Some have valued Cam more than they should. He’s simply not a great QB and I think we are finding out most teams feel the same way, especially with his most recent injury issues.

Cams game is his running. Which opens up passing game. He is not a pocket passer. Cannot stick a round peg into a square hole.

once you take that running game out he becomes mediocre.

Anyone know if Cam has to take a physical before being released?  Both parties might realize he cannot pass one at this point in his rehab.

He would be in line for an injury settlement/release I suppose?  Not sure how it works now.

maybe that is the reason he hasn't been released yet.

If it works like in the past they would have to reach an injury settlement before he can be released.  Given the events of the last few days I would imagine those negotiations are getting a bit dicey.

Players can be released with a "failed physical" designation, but I think that's usually a prerequisite to putting them on injured reserve. Obviously, Newton isn't going on injured reserve so a settlement would be needed.

But again, if they were willing to talk about a trade, it sounds like they believe he can pass a physical.

Honestly don't think we're that far away from that becoming the norm. Maybe 2-3 years tops, as franchise QB salaries will balloon to $35M+ (possibly starting with Dak, and then definitely with Mahomes).

With a star QB as a starter, maybe.

Nobody is paying a backup quarterback 20 million dollars.

It sure as heck ain't happenin' here.

Look no one is TRADING for Cam Newton. That doesn't mean he isn't wanted, just that teams are willing to wait until he's released. With COVID-19 delays and OTAs likely being pushed back to TBD, why would you trade for such a high risk commodity that WILL DEFINITELY be released if not traded?

The organization really screwed Cam on this and hopefully he's learned a valuable lesson about loyalty, business and perceptions

This isn't about his passing ability or lack thereof, a lot of the hate and hesitation is due to perceptions of a populace/demographic that doesn't understand him. QBs don't act or carry themselves like Cam. I think he'll either have to buy-in or be prepared to move on with his life. They're not going to allow him to be himself as long as he's a starting QB in the NFL. Damn...
