Panthers To Allow Cam Newton To Seek Trade

Have you been following the Cam news the past few months? It’s pretty clear they have been shopping him for a while. No one has been willing to bite.

The guy is just not worth what panthers fans think he’s worth and the team ran out of time before they would start to lose out on replacement options.

Maybe Ron or Bill will give him a chance, but so far no one has wanted to.

I think that we need to pump the breaks on that until we find out if Cam's side is asking for an extension before agreeing to a trade.

The contract could be the holdup more so than the player.

I have been following, closely. I agree with your assessment of value but disagree with your conclusion. It's not clear at all that he's being shopped, and the simplest explanation is a disconnection of communication between Player and HQ. This is looking more and more like something that no one wanted to sign on to.

I also qualified that who knows what actual conversations have happened behind closed doors. There may be information that they have that we don't. But, given what we have to work with, I do think it's an unequivocal failure of management if Newton walks for peanuts.

Idiotic how this was handled. All the double talk sunk any compensation we were going to get if we had it in mind to trade cam, but no, like dumbasses, Rhule and Tepper just had to go above and beyond to lie to fans ect. If you’re trying to trade cam why the hell would you come out to the public and tell them you’re looking for a significant haul? Handled poorly as hell

Where on earth do these scrambled brain types around here come up with some of this trash?

Now I'm reading claims about Newton lying about his injuries, and even purposely delaying his recent surgery to back the Panthers into a disadvantageous corner. You would think Cam is a supervillain and a master puppeteer.

I pity Teddy Bridgewater for what he's stepped into with some of this lot.

If the Panthers have no intention of using him/are building solely for the future and not the present; and just want his salary off the books.  They could definitely trade him for a 5th rounder.  There is SOME team out there that would take that gamble.

For what it's worth I'm not at all suggesting that they should; just the logic of getting ANYTHING rather than an outright release.

Based on the Cam we know and love, if he was traded for a 5th rounder, and had to compete for a starting job, how do you think he would react? If I were the GM somewhere and the Panthers came to me with this deal I would have to think long and hard about that.  It's not JUST about the trade. It's about the fit and personnel as well.

lol this franchise is dirty. Im trying to figure out why Cam deserved this?

The guy is great in the community, even had Tepper show up to his events. He went publicly and said he loves Carolina and wants to stay here. The first player in our franchise history to win a MVP and we do him like this?

This is just a bad look for the Panthers. They kept him till the last minute and announced during FA that he was available in a trade. Only to have teams sign their FA QB's and dry up the market before he could even get traded. Now they going to most likely release him with no market. Im not even Cam and even I feel bad for him.

He didn't deserve this.

Yeah, it's pretty telling we can't even give him away when Jags had no problem moving Foles.  I think the market for him isn't nearly as hot as some on this board think.  I mean some posters legit thought he would fetch a 1st or more, good lord.

Right. I laugh and shake my head everytime I see a post: Cam is waay better than X. I guess everyone here is right and the rest of league's FOs are wrong.

Unless it's one of the obvious 4 teams that are being tied to Cam, I think he'll be in a 1A/1B type of situation.  Where he can probably beat out the competition but that team feels good about who they have behind him.

He may have to accept that, and that just comes with the nature of uncertainty with his injury.  I love Cam, and personally hope he puts up AMAZING stats this year, but nobody knows how his body will hold up in a full season at this point.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
