It's not spite.

It's stupidity.

They've screwed themselves out of getting anything back for him. Pretty sure that wasn't the plan.

They were never getting anything for him!

What don't you understand?

He's not healthy, nobody is trading anything of value for a QB who may or may not pass a physical.

My goodness you guys do know Cam has been injured for 2 straight years right? You don't just trade a QB that easily with his health concerns.

imagine getting nothing getting nothing for a QB of Cams caliber when backups are commanding 13 million lol

It's like people forgot Cam hasn't been healthy for 2 straight years. Imagine thinking you're getting value for a broken QB on the last year of his deal. Huddle logic...

I have no sources, this is how I read it. It is based off of reading stuff from people who have some sources, media articles over a probably 6 month span. Maybe a bit more.

He was threatening them with not being healthy enough to pass a physical, holding that over the team's head. This after dragging feet on having the Lisfranc surgery. Meaning he could stifle any attempt to trade him while still getting paid. And it could go on this entire season where he sits out and collects, and the team either tags him when it is all over, or after a year of being held hostage just allows his contract to expire and he is a FA. I think we are in the grip of that situation and they knew they don't want this but they damn sure don't want another year of no Cam and pay him the whole time. edit: while still not being sure if he is healthy.

QB is a premium position where even the most mediocre talents command picks..

Health can easily be negotiated into a potential trade to void the trade but it would not stop one, the only thing that wold stop on is mishandling the situation which is what the FO did

yeah, one time waiting til the last minute for surgery can slide - but every time?  i don't think the video he put out last year admitting he hid his injuries helped him a lot with the fo/owner.   i would have fired him that day if he worked for me.  you don't put our dirty work laundry on social media and expect to have a job.

the other issue is not how bad we screwed this up, but is anyone even going to want him, period.   for the last few months there have been sideline reporters letting little things out about cams behavior on the sideline.   now reports are coming out (la canfora) that the chargers aren't interested, at all.   cowterd has been saying for months he's got a close source inside the building and that the behind the scenes stuff with cam is ridiculous.    i have no idea if its true.   right now all that's left for him to be a starter is new england.   we'll see if anyone is interested at all.

Cowherd has been a Cam hater for years, this is known he picks out particular athletes he hates and taunts them on his show. Does the same with Baker Mayfield, Russell Westbrook, John Wall. The guy is a troll.

Yeah, it's pretty telling we can't even give him away when Jags had no problem moving Foles.  I think the market for him isn't nearly as hot as some on this board think.  I mean some posters legit thought he would fetch a 1st or more, good lord.

However the cards shake out, this was poorly handled from the business end. You lose all bargaining power negotiating a deal with Bridgewater and releasing this news once you basically have to. If you're any other GM, why not just wait for the release? If this was your plan, a trade should have already been in place.

Have you been following the Cam news the past few months? It’s pretty clear they have been shopping him for a while. No one has been willing to bite.

The guy is just not worth what panthers fans think he’s worth and the team ran out of time before they would start to lose out on replacement options.

Maybe Ron or Bill will give him a chance, but so far no one has wanted to.

We weren't ever going to get as much as many on this board wanted, but Cam delaying the surgery so long is why we likely get nothing.  Were he healthy (the foot) right now, I think we could have turned him for a pick, but an unhealthy player that costs at least 20M this season and a draft pick is probably not very smart for most teams.

The Pats being the outlier there.
