REPORT: Panthers make 3-year contract offer to Greg Van Roten (UPDATE: will not be re-signed)

Starts 11 out of 16 games last year, wants 8 to 10 million a year and plays like a backup....

Remember when we let Norwell walk and it was the right more? Now we are trying to sign someone half as good as that. Just get another UDFA and call it the third man up

That’s just the blocking scheme. Plenty of rookie guards the past couple of years that could have done that too.

Oh well, while Marty’s here there’s no need to complain. Let’s sign the perennial PS 30 year old to a top 10 G contract because he can pull. I’m sorry but back when Norwell and Turner (dropped off a ton after Norwell left) were both here, they stood out. Van Roten hasn’t stood out at all. He can pull but he sure didn’t help our pass protection.

If you were right more often about things, I'd argue with you. You're simply wrong on this.

Folks trying to talk about his age and money while unable to address the film says a lot :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

For those of you that are fiscally conservative when it's convenient for your argument, go take a look at how much money the team has available for 2021 (over $100M). We are in a very, very good place to retool. Bring in vets like GVR to help teach the young guys how to be pros and young guys with something to prove like our two recent DEs + the DB we just signed. If they don't look like they're going to work out, they're on cheap enough deals that we can move on.

Team is in a super good place to retain CMC, Moton, and Samuel if they do so. Could even retain Armah if the coaches like having an FB/H-Back on the roster.

Also, players and agents know the cap is going to take a big jump next offseason, so everyone freaking out about the contracts being given out need to prepare for the new normal.  Every contract is going to look like an overpay...at least based on the outdated model.

It’s unfortunate he was never allowed to develop at Center. When he took over for Kalil he did very well. Now we have Paradis playing like poo on a stupid contract, who VR was definitely better than.

VR really doesn’t need to be starting anywhere now.

God the stupidity of this franchise.

Umm, no he didn’t. Larsen had some good games in relief of Kalil back in 2016, but since then has looked below average. I remember Van Roten going in at center and botching snaps. He was clearly having an issue there. It might have been preseason too. Paradis and Kalil played 98%+ and 97%+ snaps at C the past two years and I think Larsen filled in for the handful of snaps as Van Roten was the starting LG the past two years. Van Roten only got 10 snaps in 2017 so again I think you are either thinking about Larsen or remember that Van Roten did play some C in preseason and believe me that wasn’t pretty at all.
