Sources: #Jets have turned their attention to #Chiefs C/G Stefen Wisniewski & #Panthers G Greg Van Roten now that Thuney/Glasgow are off the board. Van Roten (30) an impressive pass blocker with 27 starts last two years. Wisniewski has been a consistently-good player since 2011

GVR is an impressive pass blocker? We talking about the same dude?

Was a surprising leader as well as consistently solid while originally thought to be the weak link on the OL.

I like the move. Hopefully the team can retain him and he can help bring along the young guys that come in to restock the trenches.

Folks might want to update their expectation on salaries. That salary cap keeps going up.

Here is the deal, if I understand correctly---we don't lose 2021 comp picks by signing our own players.  GVR, if I am not mistaken, can also play C in a pinch.  He is a serviceable G.  He can pull.  I would not pay more that $4m per, however.  I think you will see a deal in the $5-6m range.  $8m is crazy.

Yes, but now that we’ve signed two people, signing Van Roten removes one of the 4 we need to lost to get all 4 comp picks.

Signing a mediocre, easily replaceable G to $8M a year and losing a pick that could be his replacement at rookie prices is just another stupid move.

This would just be another in a long line of stay mediocre and don’t really try to get back to the top move.

Let’s trade lazy Trai who has been a better player than Van Roten ever will be and sign Van Roten to almost the same money. SMH. How about we let Rhule whip Trai into shape and get a real pro bowler again? That would have been the best bang for the buck.

Just so everyone is aware. Van Roten isn’t young and isn’t going to vastly improve. He’s 4, yes 4 years older than Turner. He’s 30, not some UDFA like Norwell who can start and really improve, etc.

Also, just an FYI for those who think this is a good thing. If we resign Van Roten, our LT, LG and C will all be 30+ years old and Moton is in the last year of his rookie contract. Yeah Hurney! So glad we didn’t draft any C/Gs the past two years. Oh wait, that athletic LT stud we wasted a 2nd and 3rd rounder on may hopefully be our RG of the future. Ugh, might as well bang my head on the wall.

Why?

I don’t yet, but we are half assing the off-season again. Making our OL older, moving our project picks that don’t work around to other spots, etc.

Trai got fat and lazy but isn’t our staff motivators? Instead of getting him back to where he was a beast, we trade him for another injured, older and still expensive stop gap.

He did a pretty good job last season and was very good at pulling and sealing off blocks to break McCaffrey free. Keeping him is a very, very good idea.

That’s just the blocking scheme. Plenty of rookie guards the past couple of years that could have done that too.

Oh well, while Marty’s here there’s no need to complain. Let’s sign the perennial PS 30 year old to a top 10 G contract because he can pull. I’m sorry but back when Norwell and Turner (dropped off a ton after Norwell left) were both here, they stood out. Van Roten hasn’t stood out at all. He can pull but he sure didn’t help our pass protection.

Folks trying to talk about his age and money while unable to address the film says a lot :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

For those of you that are fiscally conservative when it's convenient for your argument, go take a look at how much money the team has available for 2021 (over $100M). We are in a very, very good place to retool. Bring in vets like GVR to help teach the young guys how to be pros and young guys with something to prove like our two recent DEs + the DB we just signed. If they don't look like they're going to work out, they're on cheap enough deals that we can move on.

Team is in a super good place to retain CMC, Moton, and Samuel if they do so. Could even retain Armah if the coaches like having an FB/H-Back on the roster.
