He played CB in college his entire career. Very solid college ball player. Not sure I am sold on him being more than a rotational guy with us and that seems a little bit high for a rotational safety. Could be the same sort of CB/S hybrid that Hurney loves so much. I would call them both "overpaid upside" players at the moment. Probably not the best footing to take but not a disaster either.

I am not sure what our next move is because I am not sure what needs we filled with the two signings. Still kind of in head scratching mode.

I know Rhule doesnt like to name starters, but Im about 96.78% sure both these new signees will be starting (unless injuries hit). First day is mainly for big names and mid-tier WAAAAY over-pays. Herniay is jumping the gun here, but like I said theres about 25 spots open. After Chris Smith and he hits on all draft picks(lols), panthers will still need about 15 more players. UDFA- HYPE!!

Yeah, we are definitely giving them contracts like they are starters. It's a bold move to go that direction. I guess we will see what this coaching staff is made of.

At least we can all admit we’ve never heard of these guys. If you’ve never heard of them, hard to have a strong opinion them.

Id also like to add, these deals are not being made without the endorsement of the head coach we just signed to 7 years and 62.5 million plus his Baylor buyout cost.

That being said I can’t say these are good or bad signings because I don’t know the players nor do I know the plan for them.

Just wanted to be a voice of reason before we see 15 pages of blind rage towards Hurney and players they know nothing about.

The endorsement of a guy with one year of NFL experience as an Assistant OL coach is comforting.

If it doesn't mess with the comp picks and we can cut after this year without carrying two other players cost, keep them coming.

This signing does count for the comp pick formula.  Right now no picks since we signed 2 and lost 1. We need Van Roten, Addison, and others to get signed.

Then it wasn't  worth it

Not how it works.  We have to sign free agents just to fill the roster, there is no way to fill a 53 man roster and not get FAs

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
