8 mil seems like a lot to pay a guy who's been cut, sent to the PS, and got a 1 yr deal for 600k.

Yeah, I am on that boat. He seems like a decent guy to take a shot at competing for a roster spot but that seems like an excessive contract. I wonder(again) how much of this is guaranteed.

At least Hurney seems to have learned his lesson about not making his questionable contracts long term.

Hurney is Hurney'ing. When you go dumpster diving, you're supposed to be offering contracts in the veteran minimum range. We're paying these guys.

Exactly. DG gave Kurt Coleman a 1 year $2M deal in 2015. After he made the pro bowl he got paid $8M in 2 years (released before year 3). This guy got Coleman’s 2nd deal with us when he should have gotten the first deal.

Was he not playing CB then?  I think he was drafted as a CB.  I see the upside in both players.  So have we tipped our draft hand yet?  Where is the DT we all know we must sign in free agency?  Whose it gonna be?

i'd really like michael pierce if he's affordable ( i doubt it, but a man can dream). fits what we need, a pure nose tackle.

Why are we giving these guys so much money? Like just give him 2 and Weatherly 4. The Vikings beat writer was surprised we gave him that much and 4 million for a guy Ive never heard of.....

I've never heard of him either and neither Shefty nor Nc or any one else on this first page of the thread bother to mention what the hell position he plays. Should we know the position of every one of the 2000 some players??? Because of the mention of Tre B I take it he's a safety,

He played CB in college his entire career. Very solid college ball player. Not sure I am sold on him being more than a rotational guy with us and that seems a little bit high for a rotational safety. Could be the same sort of CB/S hybrid that Hurney loves so much. I would call them both "overpaid upside" players at the moment. Probably not the best footing to take but not a disaster either.

I am not sure what our next move is because I am not sure what needs we filled with the two signings. Still kind of in head scratching mode.

For those of you unfamiliar with Hurney, the fact this guy is an NC native is worth about 5-6 million. This contract should make more sense after understanding that.

ahhh now it makes sense. He loves his local guys. If Simmons is gone we are guaranteed to take Kinlaw over Brown without question.

Dis fool got passed around the Jets and Browns, on and off the practice squad, signed week 3 this pass year and this is your pick for "Yes thats whom the panthers need to be starting free safety"

For 4 per too, first day overpay herniay....... At least when the dolphins overpay for Jones he has elite talent. This guy can barely make the browns or Jets roster.

    • Happy Thanksgiving y’all. Thankful for a very good team and for this group to talk canes.  Eat drink celebrate our win bs the rags. This team is cup ready.
    • I don't think should be seen as an insult, legitimately. Teddy's floor was consistently a good game manager to his ceiling of border-line top 10 QB who's arm strength didn't blow you away but could make all the throws and generally made good decisions and had some sneaky athleticism.  Teddy started on quite a few teams. He had a good start to his career, had a horrific injury that could have ended his career, came back and played himself into being a starter, got a contract here (and subsequently became another victim of Tepper's impetuousness), and then started games for a few other teams. Teddy could have been a franchise QB had he not suffered a freak injury, and then he just never ended up in another stable situation. He still had a good NFL career that could have been great without that injury. Teddy before that injury did look like a franchise QB, and I dont think that's a bad comp for Young nor an insult in terms of what his career could be based on that comparison.
    • Absolutely the wrong take. We have to run and gun. We have zero post presence. We just have to make shots. We just can't hit water from a boat tonight and we're turning it over to boot. Then you have a poor shooting opponent shooting lights out.  Looks like a long season ahead of us though if Hubert doesn't adapt to this roster. We have to play a pressure trapping D and get out in transition because we aren't beating anyone in the half court.
