We owe Matt Khalil 10 mill in dead money

Worst player acquisition ever was trading 2 1st round picks for Sean Gilbert. It might not have had the salary cap implications Matty K did but it was still by far the worst move in the history of the franchise. 

Wasn't a fan of the signing then, not a fan of it now, especially following a hip surgery. Big FA signings are notoriously overpaid for the results you get, and this one was no exception.

   If Hurney made a mistake, what was it? If it’s obvious, let us in on it. What did he cost us? What SHOULD he have done? Anything but coming in here to argue and then tucking tail.

Apparently, this doesn’t change the amount Kalil gets or save any money, but it does guarantee he’ll be on the roster in 2018.

already been proven and documented that all that did was give us a way to go after the money if he retired on us. Didn’t give him any extra money or kick the can down the road.

The dead cap is so unusually high this year for two reasons, we are rebuilding trying to get younger and two, trying to clean up the books for 2021 so we actually can be active in FA if need be.

Agreed. But I will have to say M Kalil is solid at #2 worst move.

We paid Matt Kalil $25M. That’s it, end of story. We aren’t paying him anymore. We only booked $10M to our cap in 2017 and 2018 so we are accounting for the $15M we postponed by using bonuses.

To put it into perspective when people act like this contract somehow destroyed our cap. Cap space wasted because of mediocre play:

Speedbump: $25M

Poe: $20.4M

Smith: $6M for 17 catches

Short: $14M for 2020 due to restructuring his deal causing us to likely not release him

Some random DE with 6 sacks in 4 years: $12.5M

I know Matt sucked balls although the 2017 OL with him was light years better than last year’s crew. That said, just Poe and Smith hurt our cap as much. We way overdramatize the actual cap ramifications of Matt Kalil. I actually think some people still think that we paid him $55M.
