You can only draft the players in the draft that year.  Teams cannot possibly look forward.  This is why I think the whole concept of "Tank for Trevor" is so asinine.  What if TL has a career ending injury this year?  Even a career threatening injury that the outcome is uncertain for.  Stupid.

Draft according to your grades on the players available that year.

Actually teams do have an idea of some of the talent of the following years draft, in the process of studying tape they see guys that will be eligible the following year.

Either way you still don't reach for need.  I'm not saying you do pure BPA, not looking to get that argument started.  You don't overdraft a player because you are desperate at that position, if that is the case you should fill it in FA.

I’m sorry, but I disagree completely. If you have such blinders on then that’s why you reach. You can’t always draft assuming future but you should be smart enough to look ahead. If you are trying to replace Matt Kalil, Andrew Norwell and Ryan Kalil and you know that the 2019 OL class is way stronger in the interior and there are away more tackles in 2020, it seems obvious. Take McCoy at C/G, don’t waste pick 77, use it on another G/T like Evans and get your T in 2020. You can’t replace 3 OL spots in one draft, especially when you waste two 3rd round picks on a bad trade up and Grier.

I’m a big believer in drafting to the strengths of the draft as they are usually the BPA picks and you end up getting great overall value. This is why I think Hurney has been awful past the first since 2008. His day 2 picks are based on pure need. I think he talks himself into giving 1st round grades on guys he wants based on position.

Of course. But having ones opinion blasted by highly biased fans with little to no knowledge of the sport is always a treat.

my favorite was that I hated the SEC because I didn’t think Greg Little was a good pick. LOL!!’

You aren't the only one who has said Little was a bad pick and wasn't worth the trade up we paid for him since we had to wait to 100 to pick Grier with our only 3rd round pick.
