I feel very lonely as someone not wanting a top 10 DT.....

Do you want a DT at 7, or even in the top 14 if we traded back?

Would you do our 7 and and 38 for Vegas 12,19 and 80.

I'd want at least a 3rd and 4th, maybe 2 3rds. 7 and 38 for 12 and 19 is even trade value, and if I'm moving away from an elite player, you better make it worth it.

Only 3 players I could really see making the Raiders move up for, Okudah, Simmons and Lamb and Lamb is a long shot. If AZ takes Lamb at 8 Raiders would likely still get Jeudy at 12 so not a huge difference.

If Jax wanted to give up their 1st and 2nd to get Simmons or Okudah would be the more interesting offer. It may be possible to still get Brown or an elite LT and get an early 2nd rounder for a receiver that would normally be a 1st in a different year, or grab a C/G to compete with Paradis or take guard if/when we lose GVR.

I don't mind a DT as a top 10 pick IF can rush the passer.

A run stopping DT can be found later.

Is there a DT in this draft that can consistently get to the QB?

Brown's tape say yes, his measurables say no.

Trading down though I would be more inclined to.

I do believe Brown, at least in the beginning, will be a space taker 1 tech that destroys run fits and takes double teams. However I think he will have the upside of getting to the qb and I think he will be one of the rare DTs that can truly take a double keeping the lbs clean and then rack the qb the next play. Heres the thing with taking him early, hes worth it because the effect he has on the entire defense. No other position effects the run defense, pass defense, and has the ability to keep the lbs clean from the same position. Him developing into a 5 to 10 sack a year guy would be icing on the cake and easily denote a top 10 pick. I think he destroys the opponent run games and drops their ypc by himself effecting the way the rest of the d plays. If hes better then Star was then he is worth the 7th pick period.

I don't think I'd take Brown in the top 15.  He is a run stuffer that wins with power (albeit BIG power), but has very few winning moves.  Not to mention, he is not overly explosive off the snap, and his agility drills show he has limited movement skills and pass rushing potential.  While his ability as a run stuffer is extremely valuable, especially to a team that struggled against the run as much as we did, the value is more of a mid to late first rather than top ten.

Additionally, this draft has some very dynamic difference makers at the top, and I don't like the idea of taking a player that will have limited impact over some of the special talent that should be there for us at #7.  Okudah, Simmons, or one of the top OT's such as Wirfs would provide far more value than Brown, and the drop-off to the next tier is far greater than from Brown to the next tier of DT's.  There are several other run stuffers that we can get in the 2nd round or beyond that would offer us similar impact to what we would get from Brown.

To be honest, I might even take Kinlaw over Brown if we do want to go DT in the 1st.  While he is more raw, and has a lower floor than Brown, his ceiling is much higher.  IMO, Kinlaw has the physical traits and athleticism to develop into a Chris Jones type of player.

You have to remember, he has only had quality coaching for the last couple of years, so he's still somewhat a blank canvas.  Once he's taught what to eat, how to maximize his workouts, and gets professional technique training, he has the potential to be really special.  But I don't know much about his work ethic or how open he will be to that coaching.  But if he is willing, I think he will have the better career of the two.

Picking @7 you need to either go QB, DT or WR.

I wouldn't mind Herbert but think Brown is such a beast often lifting guys up and fits the teams strong front four tradition on defense. I alone would be ecstatic if it was CeeDee Lamb or... Jeudy at 7 also.

Such a high pick you've got to get a rare body type/difference maker.

Derick Brown is one of the best players in the draft and is as close to Suh coming out as you can get, I'd be ecstatic with him at 7.

However, all of his measured, on-field work was historically bad. His 8.22 3-cone placed in the third -- yes, third -- percentile among defensive tackles. His vertical? 22nd percentile at the position. His broad jump was a respectable but far from super-impressive 66th percentile. His short shuttle time of 4.79 -- 18th percentile. Ndamukong Suh -- a trendy comparison for the Auburn star -- was light years more athletic than Brown when he tested at the combine in 2010.

Brown didnt test like Suh, again I want to know how many PED test he passed. His tape is just tossing SEC OLmen around like the uncle at the family gathering playing with children. I soured on brown hardcore after the combine. Simmons is my new man-crush.
