I feel very lonely as someone not wanting a top 10 DT.....

Do you want a DT at 7, or even in the top 14 if we traded back?

It’s Marty Hurney. What do you expect to happen?

1st Round LB'er if available -- Beason / Davis / Luke / Simmons (?)

Then factor in the coaching staff's desire to remain multiple and be able to shift, a nickel LB'er pairing of Shaq and Simmons is very, versatile, each can cover, play the run, and blitz.

I think the more a guy that's chosen in the first round can do the better, Brown to me is purely a NT / space-eater. We can get a body to fill that roll in FA / Day 2. We also don't know what the plan for Poe is, expectation is he's gone, and if so replacing a space eating DT is easier than ''elite LB traits'' especially after the loss of Luke.

If it falls that way it's a perfect transition to the next young Panther LB duo.

I want an OT. Best class in years and something we have sorely missed. No matter who we have at QB, they have to be protected.

I was hoping we could do a trade back with the Raiders for 12 and 19, take Brown/Kinlaw at 12 and Bechton at 19. Doesn't look like that could happen, but I think we need an anchor OL before a DT.

OT to this team is far more important in the long term than DT....in my opinion.

I loved Okung....in college...not going to bet on the health of yet another big man, who can't stay on the field.

I'm higher on Kinlaw than a lot people so I'd be fine with him or Brown, but I do understand the sentiment. @thefuzz Who specifically would rather us pick?

I want an offensive tackle.  At this moment I like Becton and Wirfs for us.

I fully expect Marty to pick a DT or LB with the 7th though.

Both Okung and Moton are on the last year of the contract too and the staff is putting out the feeling that Little is likely to move inside to OG. OT would absolutely be more than justified.

I don't think that the positional value is there if we are sitting pat at 7....in this draft.

I don't think that he has the ability to consistently generate pressure on the QB, and if I'm taking a DT in the top 10, at the very least I want that...he is not as good of a player (IMO) as Fletcher Cox, and certainly doesn't have the explosion.

And then we can bring up the likely snap counts for him...as a rook, I would be shocked if he played more than 65% of the defensive snaps, and stayed effective.....and that's just not what I would prefer to do with a top 10 pick.

Fair enough.

I'm not 100% sold on Okung yet. His medical issues have me very hesitant to rely on him for 16 games. Obviously not his fault, but I really looked at this trade as more of a salary dump for Trai with the possibility of securing a 1 yr LT.

I dont think we can afford to pass on Bechton or Wirfs. It's not a flashy pick, not like Okudah, Brown or Simmons, but I feel a much more important pick. We've all seen what a solid line can do for a QB or RB. The possibility of CmC behind a line like Dallas's could potentially give the NFL its first 3k total yard season.

Defense is important no doubt but a D will feed off your offensive momentum. With our coaching staff appearing to be driven towards offense, putting our QB in the best position to succeed would be ideal. Cam with more than 2 seconds could be lethal.

I agree, and it's more than one thing for me...it's a multitude.

OT's will play every single offensive snap, and are rarely scheme dependent...DT's will play 2/3's of the snaps, and can absolutely be scheme dependent.  Do we know if we are running a 3/4 or 4/3?  Hybrid?

On top of the snap counts, the OT being a higher "tier" player, and the ability to help both CMC and Cam (or whomever), you also have the length in which the player can play at a high level.

A lot more top end 30+ year old OT's out there vs. DT's.

Simmons is also on my "please please please don't do what you want to do Hurney" list.
