Plus, some guy called Billy_M is telling us exactly how Hurney thinks?

Who is Billy_M? What's his inside info? What's his experience?

I mean, it doesn't take much knowledge to drop something on Twitter. Actually, it takes nothing.

Meh.

Hurney’s record and rosters he puts together are enough to tell us how he thinks

If any of you guys watched the latest video series this week.

I wish we wouldve done a full house cleaning.  We did the staff.  Shouldve purged Marty and the scouting dept as well.

This is the same staff that watched Gaulden run etc preaching to Rhule about athletic ability when he asked for 40 times at the combine.

You can't purge the scouts that late in the game, same reason we got through DG's last draft before he was fired, changes will likely come after this off-season as Rhule gets more people in place.

But it was also pretty evident the bald guy in the video was aware of the ''true'' 40 times, he made comments like ''they know when they're gonna run slower than they say'' (referring to the player) and ''if you're slow, you're slow dude''.

So I do wonder if some of this commentary is being exaggerated a bit overall.

When you look at our recent top picks, all of them have high SPARQ scores (Moore, Jackson, Burns), as a 3rd round selection the staff may have wanted a ''big nickel'' that is where Gaulden would have fit if the experiment had worked. I don't agree with 3rd round selections (Grier also) to be used on projects, that to me is 5th to 7th round territory.

Considering the articles about Rhule and his desire for speed / athletcism always being a premium, I would look to see the changes apply to the 3rd and later picks all being guys skill position relevant that are at the high end of the speed / athleticism spectrum. If you're gonna have a pet project they need to AT LEAST have next level athletic traits to build on IMO.

He's one of the writer's @ catscratchreader if memory serves -- IMO he's very Panther negative in most of his commentary, I honestly stopped following his material. he usually had some good film, but his narrative seems slanted to bashing the team a bit more than it deserves IMO.

Do they though? We drafted the least athletic DB in the draft in the 3rd round. How could anyone be surprised he failed? The Combine isn't the end all be all but it exposed the fact that he simply wasn't an NFL caliber athlete. We still drafted him in the 3rd.

Gualden, like Grier IMO was a coach selection from each side of the ball respectively, he wasn't selected to play outside. That ''buffalo'' nickel crap we were infatuated with IMO led to this selection, if you recall one of the Tennessee coaches was on the staff (Brady Hoke) I believe, He was later fired.

Same thing with Grier, we were desperate to add a young QB for ''reasons'', and this seemed to be a Norv approved move. I'm most interested to see how we change our approach on project players, I want the best athletes in the late rounds over anything, you can work on skill / technique, you can't teach high end athleticism.

This is poor understanding. The guy said while watching them run he cares more about how fluid they look. They get the numbers later. If you’re more worried about the number in the moment you’re not actually watching them run. Don’t worry, they check the numbers later.

right.

That pick never seemed a Hurney pick who talked about getting faster and more athletic before the draft last year. That was his main priority. So when we picked Gaulden that sounded unusual. Something Ron might value but not Hurney.
