It may help some, it may not.  We have no idea yet.  I just laugh when people act like its not a real drug already in use.

They are just playing the pro vs anti Trump cards.  Neither really care about the drug

Bull is grinding his ax about this Chloroquine drug, you are grinding your ax against Trump.  I am just saying it has been used a few times and had limited success.  Neither it nor the Japanese drug will make it into our systems until fall, so no use getting excited, nor making it off limits for discussion.

I am not “grinding my ax against trump” on this. There is no evidence to suggest Chloroquine has had any effect in the way it’s being suggested, especially in severe cases. Much less being a “cure”. Where as the Japanese drug has show substantial benefit in mild to medium cases, stopping the disease from multiplying. Aka disease can’t multiply, disease dies.

also,

“And, more importantly, it can have dangerous side effects, as well as giving people false hope.

The latter has led to widespread shortages of hydroxychloroquine for patients who need it to treat malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, the indications for which it was originally approved.”

Looks like in the end, another group might be in the coronavirus high risk group.  Diabetes we know, but just obesity?  We in trouble here in the US.  Biggie size, not good.

Obesity carries with it a ton of other issues along with it.  There is nothing healthy about being "fat," regardless of how much people want to call it acceptable.  The body starts to function differently after a person gets above a certain weight (each person is different).

And giving it to people it will have no effect on while endangering those who it’s actually approved for is just dumb.

Incorrect

““Whether hydroxychloroquine works in vivo is not proven for any virus, and in fact in randomised controlled trials against a number of viruses, including influenza, it doesn't work at all,” says Douglas Richman, a virologist and infectious disease physician at the University of California, San Diego.

Hydroxychloroquine has shown activity in vitro against many viruses, including influenza and coronaviruses, but that has largely failed to translate into success in either animals or humans. In 2005, the drug showed in vitro activity against SARS-CoV, which is closely related to the current pandemic virus, but it failed to decrease viral load in mice, and clinical interest drifted away, says Christopher Tignanelli, a surgeon at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, who is involved in clinical trials of COVID-19 treatments.

Although the existing evidence is thin, it is promising enough to warrant further study, says David Boulware, an infectious disease physician at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. “When someone is sick in hospital, we throw the kitchen sink at them, but we don't always know if it works,” he says. “That's why we need clinical trials.””

These Paris researchers found that after five to six days of treatment with hydroxychloroquine (600 mg per day for 10 days) and azithromycin (500 mg on day 1 and 250 mg on days 2 to 5), eight of the 10 patients still tested positive for COVID-19.

Of these 10 patients, one patient died, two were transferred to the ICU and another had to be removed from the treatment due to serious complications.”

Stop it with chloroquine. No actual study or doctor backs this up as a definitive “treatment”.

In fact the CDC just scrubbed it from the website.

CDC was giving advice to docs on using the drug, but since it had not been through all clinical trials, some objected to it being on there like other drugs and they took it down.  Does not mean they have given up on it.  As I said, it would probably be fully vetted by fall.

False Hope isn’t Hope. It’s fear mongering.

2.2 million deaths is fear mongering.

Someone saying we are trying several new things that hold promise, is not bad.  But the President took it a bit beyond that.  He lets the cat out of the bag sometimes a bit too soon.  But, the media reports stuff like the Japanese drug, chloraquine, z paks, and a host of other things.  The internet is FULL of things that are entirely false, urban myths, etc.  What the president did is report on something that the media is already reporting on.  He did not use the right amount of caution on it, but did not do something so overtly wrong that requires the hair on fire reactions.

It shows that GWB had said all the right things saying it would be a good idea to be ready for any pandemic. We should have already had some kind of contingency plan in place for this kind of thing but unfortunately we were blindsided by our own countries failure to do just that. It is now to late for that now since we are in a state of disaster.

I hope to god you’re still in school. Make sure you pay close attention in English because this hurts my brain to read. There may still be hope for you.
